In the vibrant city of Durban, South Africa, the shores are set to come alive with the exhilarating COSAFA Beach Soccer Championship.
This prestigious event, slated for 17th to 23rd March, follows closely on the heels of the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup held in the United Arab Emirates. Africa’s finest, Senegal, and Egypt, showcased their talents on the global stage, and now the focus shifts to regional supremacy.
Durban, known for its beautiful beaches and warm climate, offers the perfect backdrop for the championship. Eight nations will vie for the title, blending the thrill of beach soccer with the spirit of competition and camaraderie.
Among these, Senegal stands tall, fresh from dethroning Mozambique as the CAF Beach Soccer AFCON champions in 2022. Their prowess and strategy make them a team to watch, having also graced the last COSAFA Beach Soccer Championship as an invitational side alongside Egypt.
This year’s edition introduces a twist with three invitational sides. Morocco and Tanzania, the 2021 CAF Beach Soccer AFCON silver-medalists, are set to bring their A-game to the South African shores.
Notably, Saudi Arabia joins as a guest team, marking a historic first non-African nation’s participation in the competition.
The lineup is completed by hosts South Africa, Mozambique, Angola, debutants Malawi, and Seychelles, the latter preparing for an even bigger stage as hosts of the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup 2025, Africa’s first.
As anticipation builds, the details of the official draw remain eagerly awaited. This championship not only promises high-octane beach soccer action but also a celebration of the sport’s growing footprint in the region, underlining the unity and diversity of the competing nations.
Durban is poised to host a spectacle that will undoubtedly leave an indelible mark on the sands of time.
