AFCON 2025: Liberia, Eswatini on track for group phase

Date:

Liberia and Eswatini are poised for success in the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025 preliminary qualifiers, holding the upper hand after commanding victories in the first leg matches.

Following their impressive triumphs earlier last week, Liberia and Eswatini have set the pace in the qualifiers, securing victories that place them in advantageous positions as they approach the return fixtures scheduled for Tuesday.

Liberia emerged victorious with a solid 2-0 win over Djibouti, showcasing their prowess on home soil. Meanwhile, Eswatini displayed dominance with a resounding 3-0 victory over Somalia, setting the stage for a confident performance in the upcoming second leg.

Chad joins Liberia and Eswatini at the top of the standings after securing a narrow 1-0 win over Mauritius in the first leg.

Despite the slender margin of victory, Chad’s position gives them a vital edge as they prepare for a challenging encounter against Mauritius on the latter’s home turf in the return leg.

Coach Kevin Nicaise of Chad acknowledges the team’s progress but remains grounded, recognizing the work still ahead. “We are far from perfect, far from being a top team in the world,” said Nicaise. “There are still things to work on and improve.”

As the second leg approaches, all eyes are on these teams as they vie for their spots in the group phase of the qualifiers, with the hopes of making an impact on the continental stage.

Liberia will host Djibouti, aiming to build on their first-leg success, while Eswatini will welcome Somalia with confidence, seeking to maintain their winning momentum.

In another fixture, South Sudan and Sao Tome and Principe will face off after a goalless draw in the first leg. With both teams eager for victory, the match promises to be a thrilling battle for supremacy as the teams strive to secure their progression to the next stage of the tournament.

As anticipation builds for the second leg of the preliminary qualifiers, fans can expect intense clashes and nail-biting moments as these teams fight for their place in the TotalEnergies AFCON Morocco 2025.
