The Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF) Executive Committee (EXCO) has officially announced the dates for the prestigious CAF TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025 and the rapidly growing CAF TotalEnergies Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) 2024.
Both tournaments will be hosted in Morocco, promising to be landmark events in African football.
CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe expressed his confidence in the upcoming tournaments, emphasizing the significance of AFCON 2025:
“I am confident that the CAF TotalEnergies AFCON Morocco 2025 will be extremely successful and will be the best AFCON in the history of this competition. I am also impressed by the enormous growth of Women’s Football in Africa and I am expecting the CAF TotalEnergies WAFCON Morocco 2024 to be immensely successful.”
Dr. Motsepe highlighted the extensive and complex discussions that led to the finalization of the dates, taking into account the busy international and domestic match calendars.
He reaffirmed CAF’s commitment to protecting the interests of African players worldwide and fostering strong relationships with football organizations such as the ECA, UEFA, other confederations, and FIFA.
“We will continue to make significant progress in developing and ensuring that African Football is globally competitive and amongst the best in the world,” added Dr. Motsepe, expressing gratitude to King Mohamed VI of Morocco, the Fédération Royale Marocaine de Football (FRMF), its President Fouzi Lekjaa, and the Moroccan government and people for their support in hosting these major tournaments.
FRMF President Mr. Fouzi Lekjaa echoed these sentiments: “We hope that the CAF TotalEnergies AFCON Morocco 2025 will be the best event to honour Africa, and Morocco will make available the best conditions to host the rest of Africa and the world.”
In addition to the tournament announcements, the CAF EXCO has also scheduled the 46th CAF Ordinary General Assembly in Kinshasa, DRC, on Thursday, 10 October 2024. Furthermore, bids will be opened to host the CAF Women’s Champions League 2024, the CAF TotalEnergies U17 AFCON, the CAF TotalEnergies U20 AFCON, and the CAF Awards 2024.
CAF has also received attractive proposals from the Middle East to host the CAF TotalEnergies Super Cup 2024, which will feature Egyptian giants Al Ahly SC, winners of the CAF TotalEnergies Champions League, and Zamalek SC, winners of the CAF TotalEnergies Confederation Cup.
With these announcements, CAF is set to deliver an exciting period of football, showcasing the best of African talent on both the men’s and women’s stages in Morocco.
