Kenya Police Bullets have been crowned champions of the 2023-2024 FKF Women’s Premier League, securing their first-ever title in a commanding fashion; unbeaten.
The historic victory was sealed on Wednesday, June 26, 2024, at the Jomo Kenyatta Mamboleo Stadium with a 3-0 triumph over Bunyore Starlets.
Despite having clinched the title earlier in round 21, the Bullets ended their season on a high note, finishing with an impressive 49 points and maintaining an unbeaten record throughout the campaign.
Mercy Njeri set the tone for the match, opening the scoring in the 19th minute to give the Bullets a 1-0 lead at halftime. The second half saw Rebecca Okwaro shine, netting twice in quick succession in the 75th and 77th minutes, ensuring a comprehensive victory for the champions.
The race for the top scorer’s title saw Vihiga Queens’ Tumaini Waliaula clinch the golden boot with 16 goals. Close behind was the Bullets’ own Rebecca Okwaro, who finished with 15 goals, followed by Purity Alukwe in third with 14 goals.
In the overall standings, Vihiga Queens and Ulinzi Starlets secured second and third place respectively, both finishing with 41 points. Ulinzi Starlets were edged out of the second spot due to goal difference.
Meanwhile, the battle to avoid relegation to the FKF Women National Super League remains intense. Madira Soccer Assassins and Zetech Sparks will have to wait until Saturday, for their fate to be decided.
Soccer Assassins’ crucial match against Kibera Soccer Ladies was rescheduled for safety reasons amidst ongoing protests.
Currently, Zetech Sparks are three points ahead of Soccer Assassins and hold a -10 goal difference.
With no more games left for Zetech Sparks, their hope rests on Soccer Assassins failing to secure a 7-0 victory against the fourth-placed Kibera Soccer Ladies FC in order to maintain their position in the FKFWPL for the 2024/25 season.
As the dust settles on an exhilarating season, the Kenya Police Bullets’ remarkable journey to the top will be remembered as a testament to their resilience and skill, marking a new era in the FKF Women’s Premier League.
