Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has successfully conducted a Special General Meeting (SGM) on Saturday, marking a crucial step towards the upcoming FKF elections.
The meeting, attended by 89 delegates, saw representation from various sectors of the Kenyan football community, including 45 FKF Branches, 18 FKF Premier League teams, 10 FKF National Super League teams, 3 FKF Women Premier League teams, 2 FKF Women National Super League teams, and 10 FKF Division One League teams.
The SGM focused on key issues that will shape the future of Kenyan football governance.
At the forefront of the agenda was the adoption of decisions made by the National Executive Committee, the endorsement of a newly composed Electoral Board, and the acceptance of the revised 2019/2020 Electoral Code.
These measures were unanimously passed by the delegates, paving the way for a smooth electoral process.
The newly approved Electoral Board comprises Hesbon Owilla, James Waindi, Alfred Ngang’a, Dan Mule, and Marceline Sande, with Farida Lucia Juma and Robert Akumu Asembo named as standby members.
This team will be responsible for overseeing the electoral process, ensuring transparency and adherence to the new rules.
A significant outcome of the SGM was the adoption of the amended Electoral Code, which will govern the conduct of the forthcoming elections. The amendments, proposed by Tusker Chairman Charles Gacheru, were identified as a key point of contention heading into the SGM.
The changes aim to expand opportunities for candidates aspiring to vie for various FKF elective positions, enhancing inclusivity and fairness in the electoral process.
With the meeting’s decisions now in place, the newly formed Electoral Board is tasked with managing the FKF elections according to the revised guidelines.
This development marks a critical milestone as the FKF prepares for an election that could redefine its leadership structure and impact the future of Kenyan football.
The successful completion of the SGM and the consensus on the electoral code amendments demonstrate a unified commitment to the governance and integrity of Kenyan football.
As the elections draw near, all eyes will be on the FKF, with stakeholders hopeful for a transparent and credible electoral process that reflects the aspirations of the football community.
