Moroccan champions eye CAF Women’s Champions League crown

Date:

Moroccan champions AS FAR (Royal Armed Forces Sports Association) has established itself as a formidable force in African women’s football, capturing attention with its impressive performances in the CAF Women’s Champions League.

The Moroccan powerhouse first entered the competition in 2021, immediately making an impact by advancing to the semi-finals in the tournament’s inaugural year.

Building on that success, AS FAR claimed the prestigious title in 2022, securing victory on home soil and further establishing their place among the continent’s elite clubs.

Now, as the 2024 edition approaches, they are determined to reclaim their title from the current champions, Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies.

AS FAR’s qualification for the 2024 CAF Women’s Champions League came through their domestic league title, cementing their status as Morocco’s leading club and automatically earning them a spot as the host team.

Although they also triumphed in the UNAF Zonal qualifiers, it was their dominant national performance that secured their ticket to the continental competition. With a squad packed with talent and ambition, AS FAR aims to bring the trophy back to Morocco.

Leading the charge is Najat Badri, a versatile star whose skills in both attack and defense have made her one of Moroccan women’s football’s most vital players.

Badri’s dedication and talent not only elevate AS FAR’s lineup but also serve as a source of inspiration for her teammates. Known for her leadership and work ethic, Badri remains focused on her goal of showcasing Moroccan football’s growing strength.

“I am proud to represent AS FAR and Moroccan women’s football. Every match is an opportunity to show our talent and prove that we can compete with the best teams in Africa,” she shared, her determination evident in her words.

Badri’s commitment on the field will be essential as AS FAR faces off against other top African clubs.

Under the guidance of head coach Mohamed Amine Alioua, AS FAR has honed a style of play that emphasizes team cohesion, mental strength, and tactical precision.

Alioua, known for his ability to get the best out of his players, remains focused on building a balanced and unified squad. He understands that reclaiming the CAF Women’s Champions League title will require intense focus and commitment from every member of the team.

“To regain our title, we must have a good balance, strong team cohesion, mental preparation, and a willingness to give everything against some of the best clubs on the continent,” Alioua recently stated, highlighting the importance of unity and resilience.

AS FAR’s journey through the CAF Women’s Champions League has been marked by continuous improvement and unrelenting ambition. In 2021, they finished in third place, demonstrating their potential from the outset.

Their championship run in 2022 cemented their place at the top, while a third-place finish in 2023 reminded everyone of their consistency.

With such a strong track record and an intense drive to reclaim the title, AS FAR enters the 2024 edition as one of the favorites, backed by the experience, skill, and unwavering support of Moroccan fans.

As they prepare to face the continent’s finest teams, AS FAR remains determined to rise once again to the pinnacle of African women’s club football.
