Fantasy Premier League is all about the finer points, the right moment, and strategy. Now that the season is in full swing, many managers are looking at their teams and pondering when to hit that magic button of Wildcard. But fret not! This guide will take you through the different strategies for maximizing your points and topping mini leagues.

Why you should be considering your Wildcard for utilization

Time is of essence in FPL, and a well-timed Wildcard can elevate your rather dull team from mid-table to best of glory in the league. Here’s why this is the time:

1. Fixture swings: Quite a few of the top teams with fixture swings for the better make it an opportune time to re-evaluate squad setups.

2. Injury pump: Many managers are being spared the discomfort of injured key players. Using a Wildcard, rather than taking multiple hits, will set you up for long-term success.

3. New signings impact: The transfer window has closed, and we now see better how new signings will impact their teams. Players like Nicolás Jackson, James Maddison, and Joško Gvardiol could be good differential picks!

4. Emerging budget gems: The likes of Beto (EVE), Robinson (FUL), and Palace’s Munoz are proving to be budget-friendly enablers. Key players to own in your Wildcard

Key players to own in your Wildcard

Premium must-haves

  • Erling Haaland (MCI)-You know who the absolute king of FPL is. Ignore him at your peril.
  • Mohamed Salah (LIV)-Egyptian forward is still proving to be one of the best assets in the game.
  • Bukayo Saka (ARS)-Main man for Arsenal, back from injury, on penalties, with a lot of attacking returns.

Mid-price gems
  • James Maddison (TOT)-Creative hub of Spurs delivering goals and assists.
  • Eberechi Eze (CRY)-Talisman of Palace, penalties, good asset.
  • Bryan Mbeumo (BRE)-Penalties, midfielders playing as forwards? Yes, please!

Budget enablers
  • Soucek (WHU)-Regularly plays and a cheap option.
  • Mykolenko (EVE)-Cheap defensive alternative with attacking potential.
  • Pedro (BHA)-On penalties and a differential forward.

When to Wildcard?

When to use a Wildcard depends on your personal team and strategies. The best times are:

Early season (GW4-6)-Responding to early season trends and fixture swings.

Mid-season (GW9-12)-Wait for the set of international break chaos to settle if your team is still in solid shape.

Second Wildcard (GW25-30)-To use it in double game-weeks, therefore maximizing your squad potential.

Final tips for a successful wildcard

🔹Put players with decent fixtures on your agenda-always plan ahead at least 5-6 Gameweeks.

🔹Flee from injury-prone players-players who are always under injury clouds should not be risked.

🔹Balance between premium & budget players-a well-balanced squad shall bring long-term success.
