The serene greens of Nyanza Golf Club in Kisumu will roar to life this Saturday as the club hosts the highly anticipated First Assurance Golf Tournament, drawing elite amateur golfers from across the Western region.
Sponsored by First Assurance, the event marks a major highlight on the regional golfing calendar and coincides with Mother’s Day celebrations.
The tournament comes on the heels of the launch of a new First Assurance branch in Kisumu on Friday, as part of the company’s broader expansion and networking strategy in the Western circuit.

The firm’s Managing Director Mr. Stephen Lokonyo is expected to lead a strong delegation of First Assurance staff to the event, including Daniel Mwangi, Peter Nuthu, Elias Kariuki, and Grace Mugo.
Lady Captain Dr. Lina Akello of Nyanza Golf Club expressed her excitement ahead of the event.
“Having First Assurance sponsoring an event at the club this weekend is a very important milestone for me as the Lady Captain. This tournament not only raises our competitive bar but also allows us to mark Mother’s Day in a very special way. We thank First Assurance for partnering with us in keeping the standards high.”

The draw for the tournament reflects a highly competitive and diverse field, with early tee-offs beginning at 7:50 am. The first group features E. Rumoh, H. Muma, and I. Noo, setting the stage for a day of thrilling fairway battles.
Notable early morning flights include C. Agumbi, F. Odhiambo, J. Ulira, and E. Brian at 8:00 am, followed closely by a strong Group 3 of BS Patel, Andrew Mutua, Lilian Kongani, and C. Ramah.

The mid-morning flights feature some of Kisumu’s familiar names such as Tabitha Ojwang, Joyce Osike, C. Konzolo, and E. Siganga in Group 8 at 9:00 am. By 9:50 am, the final morning tee-off will be Group 13, composed of Tom Agumbi, L. Kipchirchir, E. Renja, and J. Acharo, just before the course breaks for turning from 10:00 am to noon.

The action resumes at 12:10 pm with Group 14, which will feature Christine Riaroh, G. Mugo, E. Barno, and I. Kuto. Of note is Group 15 at 12:20 pm, which will include First Assurance MD Stephen Lokonyo and Peter Nuthu teeing off alongside Nyanza Golf chairman Thomas Odongo and A. Cheruiyot. Daniel Mwangi and Elias Kariuki will follow in Group 16 at 12:30 pm.
Lady Captain Dr. Lina Akello herself will be in action in Group 11 at 9:30 am, paired with N. Koech, Elizabeth Akinyi, and S. Maina.

Her presence on the course adds a special flair to the competition, which celebrates both sportsmanship and motherhood.
The afternoon sessions will also see a strong presence of local club players including A. Patel, BM Shah, M. Odour, and Fadhili M in Group 18, as well as Darius, K. Omamo, M. Kombo, and V. Weke in Group 19.

As Nyanza Golf Club welcomes players from Kisii, Kakamega, Kericho, Eldoret, and Nandi Bears, all eyes will be on Kisumu’s flagship golf venue. With First Assurance stepping in as a key partner, the tournament is expected to set a benchmark for regional golf sponsorship and competition.
The First Assurance Golf Day promises not just bragging rights but a celebration of community, sportsmanship, and corporate collaboration in one of Kenya’s golf strongholds.
