Barcelona and Espanyol will meet in a thrilling and important ‘Derbi Barceloni’, which is set to be the key fixture in the midweek Matchday 36 of the 2024-25 LALIGA season, running from Tuesday 13 to Thursday 15 May.

With the end of the season within touching distance, Barcelona need to secure victory over their cross-town rivals in a clash at the RCDE Stadium on Thursday evening, as they seek to dethrone Real Madrid as champions.
Barca defeated Espanyol 3-1 when the teams met earlier this season, but manager Hansi Flick admitted that he was just relieved to come out of the derby with three points, admitting that he “wasn’t pleased” with his team’s performance.
Espanyol boss Manolo Gonzalez, meanwhile, has helped the team ease fears of a relegation battle with a strong run of form through April, though he acknowledges that they will have to step up their level to have a chance of upsetting Barcelona
“You can see the quality of their team and their achievements this season are a reflection of that,” said Gonzalez. “We will have to be better than we have been, even during our winning run in April, but with the support of our home fans we have a chance to do some damage to their ambitions.”
The midweek action opens on Tuesday with Real Valladolid hosting Girona, Celta Vigo heading to the Basque region to face Real Sociedad, and a crunch clash between Sevilla and Las Palmas at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium which could be key in deciding the relegation picture.
Wednesday features a similarly important clash between Alaves and Valencia, while champions Real Madrid need to defeat Mallorca at the iconic Santiago Bernabeu Stadium. Los Blancos have endured a disappointing season thus far, but English midfielder Jude Bellingham still has faith that they can claim some glory in what remains of the campaign.
“We have to give everything we have. Hala Madrid until the death,” said Bellingham.
Thursday, apart from the ‘Derbi Barceloni’, also features Atletico Madrid visiting Osasuna, Rayo Vallecano hosting Real Betis, and Athletic Bilbao looking to secure a top-four finish with their clash at Getafe’s Coliseum Stadium.
