Joseph Nyaga and Kendra Masiga emerged victorious in the men’s and women’s categories respectively at the 7th edition of the Arabuko Sokoke MTG Cycling Challenge held in Watamu, Kilifi County.

Nyaga braved the chilly and rainy conditions to complete the men’s race in 3 hours and 29 seconds, edging out Bernard Njoroge and Ephantus Gicheru, who finished second and third respectively.

In the women’s category, Kendra Masiga of the Black Mamba Development Squad claimed first place with a time of 4 hours 11 minutes.

Nancy Debe of Team Kothbiro was a close second, also clocking 4 hours 11 minutes, while Monica Jelimo secured the third spot on the podium.

The event attracted 63 riders and was organized by ARocha Kenya, an environmental organization focused on conservation and community development.

Participants expressed enthusiasm for the race and its meaningful cause despite the challenging weather.

“Cycling for a cause like this is incredibly rewarding,” said cyclist Sarah Ndung’u. “Despite the rain, we’re out here showing our support for the children and the environment.”

Patrick Kilimo, the event coordinator for ARocha Kenya, emphasized the broader impact of the race: “Today is not just about cycling; it’s about making a difference in the lives of these children. The funds we raise will go directly to education initiatives in the forest communities, helping to ensure that children have access to learning resources and opportunities.”

The Arabuko Sokoke MTG Cycling Challenge continues to be a vital platform for promoting environmental conservation and supporting education in local communities, combining sport with social impact.
