Kenya’s Paul Machoka delivered a dominant performance to claim victory at the Tatra Fest in Zakopane, Poland, on Sunday June 15, 2025, reinforcing his lead in the Mountain Running World Cup standings. The challenging 27km race, featuring 1700m of ascent and high-altitude technical terrain, tested even the most seasoned athletes under scorching conditions and a cloudless sky.
Machoka, already the World Cup leader following his win at Zmeu X Fest and runner-up finishes at Vertical and Trofeo Nasego, was a clear favorite. He lived up to expectations by breaking away early alongside fellow Kenyan Kevin Kibet. Machoka surged ahead to finish first in 2:22:16, with Kibet following in 2:26:14. Poland’s Marcel Fabian claimed third in 2:33:50.
In the women’s race, Great Britain’s Scout Adkin reaffirmed her dominance on the circuit. As the current World Cup leader and victor at Zmeu X Fest, Adkin quickly built a commanding lead over a strong field that included Polish contenders and international runners from Spain and Canada. She crossed the finish line in 2:50:36, adding another win to her impressive World Cup season, which also includes two second-place finishes.
Poland’s Weronika Matuszczak secured second place in 2:56:06, while local ski mountaineering champion Iwona Januszyk took third in 3:02:45.
With Machoka and Adkin both asserting their status at the top of the World Cup standings, the Mountain Running season continues to heat up.
