Harambee Stars are set to stage their group matches at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, in the upcoming African Nations Championship (CHAN 2024), which will be co-hosted by Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania this August.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially unveiled the complete match schedule.
The curtain-raiser will take place on Saturday, 2 August 2025, in Dar es Salaam, featuring co-hosts Tanzania squaring off against Burkina Faso at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium, with kick-off set for 20:00 local time (17:00 GMT).
Kenya has been placed in the formidable Group A, alongside continental powerhouses DR Congo, Angola, Morocco, and Zambia.
The group’s matches will unfold in Nairobi, divided between Nyayo Stadium and Kasarani.
The Harambee Stars will commence their campaign against DR Congo on Sunday, August 3, followed by encounters with Angola and Morocco, before concluding the group phase with a pivotal showdown against Zambia.
Beyond hosting group matches, Kasarani will also serve as the venue for a quarterfinal duel between the winner of Group A and the runner-up from Group B.
Additionally, the stadium has been selected to host the tournament’s grand finale and official closing ceremony.
As the home team, Harambee Stars will aim to harness local support and capitalize on familiar conditions in a bid to mount a serious title charge.
Group A promises to be fiercely contested, with each side eyeing the prestigious CHAN crown which is exclusively reserved for players active in their respective domestic leagues.
DR Congo enter the tournament as a formidable contender, boasting two CHAN titles (2009 and 2016), while Angola, runners-up in 2011, are expected to be equally competitive.
Meanwhile, Morocco, another two-time champion, will bring intense competition to the group, adding further intensity to an already high-stakes group.
All eyes will now be on head coach Benni McCarthy’s squad selection, as he assembles a formidable lineup capable of rising to the occasion on home soil.
This marks Kenya’s debut as hosts of a major CAF tournament, and with the spotlight on East Africa, CHAN 2024 is primed to be a historic and unforgettable spectacle.
