Kenya have been handed a new fine of $50,000 following the security lapses during the game against Morocco on Sunday last week.
The new fine marks the third time Kenya has been punished for similar offences at CHAN 2024, as crowd control remains an ongoing issue.
The fine comes after disturbing scenes witnessed before the win over Morocco, with many fans accessing the stadium without tickets.
While Harambee Stars have continued to rack up impressive performances at the 2024 African Nations Championships, the situation in the stands and just outside the stadium paints a grim picture.
In a latest statement released by CAF, the disciplinary board has threatened to relocate Kenyan team games to Uganda or Tanzania if breaches persist.
Below is a summary of the decisions:
Football Association of Zambia (FAZ)
The CAF disciplinary board charged the Football Association of Zambia (“FAZ”) with breaching CAF’s Media Regulations during the Match Day-1 press conference ahead of their CAF African Nations Championship match against the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Zambia failed to present their head coach at the mandatory press conference. The disciplinary board found Zambia guilty and imposed a fine of $5,000.
Football Kenya Federation (FKF)
The CAF disciplinary board charged the Football Kenya Federation (“FKF”) with multiple safety and security breaches during Kenya CAF African Nations Championship (“CHAN”) match against Morocco at Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.
The disciplinary board found Kenya guilty and imposed a fine of $50,000. Kenya has been warned that continued failure to meet CAF’s safety and security requirements may lead to the relocation of Kenya’s National Team matches to an alternative venue.
Kenya was advised to increase security measures by deploying sufficient personnel within the perimeter of the stadium as well as adhering to the road closures on match days.
Federation Royale Marocaine de Football (FRMF)
The CAF Disciplinary Board charged the Fédération Royale Marocaine de Football (“FRMF”) with the inappropriate conduct of its players during Morocco’s CAF African Nations Championship (“CHAN”) match against Kenya.
The disciplinary board found Morocco guilty and imposed a fine of $5,000, of which $2,500 is suspended on condition that no similar offence is committed during the remainder of CHAN 2024.
The fines are to be paid within 60 days of notification of this decision.
