On Monday, FIFA announced the launch of inaugural Women’s Champions Cup in China, where six continental club champions will compete to become the first world champions in women’s club football.
The tournament is set to begin on October 8 at the Wuhan Sports Centre Stadium, with local team Wuhan Jiangda WFC, the winners of the AFC Women’s Champions League, facing Auckland United FC, champions of this year’s OFC Women’s Champions League.
“As Round 1 approaches, fans, the media, and football enthusiasts around the world are preparing to witness history as the first FIFA Women’s Champions Cup kicks off in Wuhan,” said FIFA Secretary General Mattias Grafström in a statement. “This tournament will unite the best women’s clubs from every continent under the FIFA banner for the first time, providing a global stage to showcase excellence, elevate the women’s club game, and inspire future generations.”
The winners will advance to Round 2 to face the champions of the CAF Women’s Champions League, who will be crowned in November. This match is scheduled to take place in December at a venue yet to be confirmed.
FIFA also stated that the final phase of the tournament, which will include the semifinals, third-place play-off, and final, will showcase the four strongest women’s clubs in the world at a central location. These matches are scheduled for January 28 to February 1, 2026.
