Microsoft today through Xbox Wire has announced the return of Xbox Game Camp Africa, now in its third year, reaffirming its long-term commitment to growing Africa’s gaming ecosystem and showcasing the continent’s unique creativity to the world.
In partnership with ID@Xbox’s Developer Acceleration Program (DAP), this year’s camp will unite pre- selected professional game studios from across the continent for a 12-week structured program.
Participating teams will progress from game ideation to developing a functional prototype or vertical slice, while receiving expert mentorship and guidance from Team Xbox mentors in areas ranging from design and storytelling to publishing and market readiness.
Since its inception, Xbox Game Camp Africa has welcomed more than 1,900 new-to-industry game creators, building a pipeline of talent and providing access to global opportunities. The program continues to serve as a platform for learning, collaboration, and exposure, while also addressing the need for structured support for Africa’s fast-growing gaming sector.
One of the standout success stories from the initiative is Kenyan studio Kunta Content, whose debut title Hiru was conceived during their participation in the first two editions of Game Camp. The studio recently unveiled a trailer that highlights the game’s stunning visuals, inspired by Africa’s diverse landscapes, from the Masai Mara to the mysteries of the Congo and the stark beauty of the desert.
“We are beyond excited to finally share a glimpse of the world of Hiru. We are bringing the continent of Africa to life in a way that has never been seen before. This trailer is a testament to our team’s passion and the incredible support from Xbox, starting with Xbox Game Camp, which has allowed us to showcase Africa’s richness and complexity to a global audience,” said CEO & game producer at Kunta Content, Dean Gichukie.
The 2025 edition of Xbox Game Camp Africa will officially kick off on December 4, 2025, in Cape Town, South Africa, in collaboration with Africa Games Week, the continent’s leading platform for connecting global and African gaming stakeholders. The event will bring together developers, publishers, investors, and thought leaders to discuss the future of gaming in Africa and beyond.
Through initiatives like Xbox Game Camp Africa, Xbox is underscoring its vision of empowering creators everywhere to share their stories, innovate, and thrive. By combining mentorship, technology, and global exposure, the program is helping to ensure that Africa’s next generation of game creators have the resources and opportunities needed to succeed.
