The Professional Golfers of Kenya (PGK) Equator Tour enters its fourth leg this week at the scenic Great Rift Valley Lodge & Golf Resort in Naivasha, running from September 18th to 21st.
The four-day tournament will bring together over 40 professional golfers from across the region as they compete and build up their ranking points to qualify for international tournaments, including the Olympics in 2028.
Some key pro golfers to feature at the Great Rift Valley Lodge & Golf Resort include Nduva Daniel, Wakhu David, Kibugu Njoroge, Snow Greg, and Mohit Mediratta, among other top-ranking players.
The tour is supported by partnerships with various stakeholders, including corporate entities like Safaricom, which committed KES3 million to support the tour and sponsored four golfers: Mutahi Kibugu, Mohit Mediratta, Samuel Njoroge, and Matthew Wahome.
It aims to provide golfers with technical training and increased game exposure to consistently earn ranking points to qualify for the Olympics in 2028 and other international tournaments.
“The PGK Equator Tour has so far continued to give our golfers the platform they need to sharpen their skills and gain the confidence to compete at higher levels. Safaricom is proud to play a role in nurturing this talent and building a stronger future for the sport in Kenya,” Safaricom CEO Peter Ndegwa said.
Since its launch, the Tour has become a critical platform for nurturing homegrown talent, testing players in diverse conditions, and enabling them to consistently earn points that count towards global rankings.
So far, three legs have been successfully completed: Ruiru Sports Club, Limuru Country Club, and Mt. Kipipiri Golf & Resort. Each leg has challenged golfers to adapt and elevate their game, with strong performances signalling Kenya’s growing potential on the international stage.
Greg Snow dominated the field at the Limuru and Mt. Kipipiri legs, finishing with an impressive ToPar of -12 and -16, respectively. At Ruiru Sports Club, Nduva Daniel finished with an impressive -18 and is now showing promising signs of qualification potential.
The performances of Safaricom-sponsored players are particularly encouraging as all of them are currently ranked in the top 10. Their consistency places them among the frontrunners on the Tour leaderboard.
With solid support from corporate partners, increasingly competitive fields, and meaningful incentives in the form of international qualification, the PGK Equator Tour is steadily shaping Kenya’s presence in global golf, with strong potential for representation in the 2028 Olympics.
