Kylian Mbappé is on fire: Averaging 1.4 goals per game so far this season

As LALIGA EA SPORTS pauses for the October international break, life is good for Kylian Mbappé. The French forward has just won the September Player of the Month award for Spain’s top division, and he kicked off October well too by scoring in Real Madrid’s 3-1 victory over third-placed Villarreal CF on Saturday. That, combined with FC Barcelona’s defeat at Sevilla FC, means Los Blancos will sit top of the table throughout the October pause.

Mbappé is truly on fire. He sits top of the Pichichi Trophy standings, the rankings for the top scorer in LALIGA EA SPORTS. With nine goals from eight matchdays, he already has a three-goal margin to the next-highest scorer, Julián Álvarez of Atlético de Madrid. The 26-year-old won this individual prize last season, along with the European Golden Shoe, and is looking to retain it in 2025/26.

Looking Europe-wide, only Bayern Munich’s Harry Kane has more goals than Mbappé so far this season in terms of players across Europe’s top five leagues. The Englishman has 18 goals so far, including from German cup competitions, while Mbappé has 14 total goals in 10 games, having scored nine times in eight league appearances and five times in two Champions League fixtures. Nobody in the Champions League has more goals than the Real Madrid man at this early stage.

Mbappé’s start to the season is much stronger than his beginning to life at Real Madrid this time last year. It took the former PSG player some 27 games to score his first 14 goals with Real Madrid. This term, he’s achieved that goals tally in 10 outings.

The ratio of 1.4 goals per game will remind some Real Madrid fans of Cristiano Ronaldo. The Portuguese superstar regularly averaged more than a goal per game, and now Mbappé is doing the same.

If adding in his appearances with France, Mbappé has 16 total goals since the summer break, given that he scored one in each of Les Bleus’ World Cup qualifiers so far, against Ukraine and Iceland. To have netted 16 goals already by the first week of October is simply incredible.

Kylian Mbappé’s “spectacular season”

The Real Madrid No.10’s performances saw him named the September Player of the Month, while he was nominated for August as well. He is standing out with his displays every week, and impressing his coach Xabi Alonso.

“He’s decisive in every match right now,” Xabi Alonso said of Mbappé this past week. “He is proving to be clinical in front of goal. I’m very happy with Kylian and the positive influence he is having in the dressing room. He could have a spectacular season.”

After scoring 45 goals in 60 appearances for Real Madrid last season, Mbappé will now set the bar even higher in his sophomore season. There is every chance that he can break the 50-goal mark this term, and that he could continue averaging a goal per game.
