Kisumu RFC climbed to 11th place in the 2025/2026 Kenya Cup standings after Week Six, overtaking MMUST as the battle at the foot of the table intensifies.

Despite still being in the relegation zone, Kisumu’s recent performance has given them renewed hope, as they now have six points, the same as Nakuru, although separated by point difference.

At the top, Kabras Sugar remain league leaders with a perfect record after six matches. They boast a significant point difference of 413 and are level on 30 points with Menengai Oilers. The Sugarmen’s only advantage over Oilers is their superior scoring margin, as both teams remain undefeated this season.

Menengai Oilers remain second, also unbeaten, continuing to put pressure on the defending champions. KCB Rugby are just behind them in third; the bankers also have six wins from six but trail by a single point on 29, having missed out on a bonus point.

Kenyatta University’s Blak Blad occupy fourth place after winning four of their six matches, maintaining a comfortable position within the playoff places. Strathmore Leos are fifth with three wins and three losses, struggling with a negative point difference that reflects a difficult run against the top teams.

Nondescript RFC sit sixth, having played one fewer match, and remain firmly in mid-table. Kenya Harlequin are seventh, their season proving inconsistent with only two wins so far.

Impala RFC are eighth after another challenging weekend, while Daystar Falcons remain ninth; both sides are tied on seven points but separated by point difference. Nakuru RFC drop to tenth, level on points with Kisumu but with a slightly better scoring margin.

Kisumu’s rise to 11th offers a glimmer of hope in what has been a challenging start to the campaign, while MMUST are now bottom in 12th place with four points from four matches, facing an uphill battle in the coming rounds but with extra games in hand.

Meanwhile, KCB Rugby put on a clinical and authoritative display to dismantle Blak Blad 45-3 in a Kenya Cup Matchday 6 encounter played at Kenyatta University, extending their strong run in the competition and underlining their title ambitions.

The Bankers weathered early pressure after Blad struck first with a penalty to take a 3-0 lead, but KCB’s response was swift and decisive. Michael Wekesa powered over for the opening try to swing the momentum, before sharp thinking from Asati at the scrum released Festus Shiasi, who sprinted in to stretch the advantage. With Wahinya accurate from the tee, KCB steadily pulled clear.

Nick Okullo and Fidel Maina crossed in quick succession as KCB dominated territory and possession, punishing every lapse in the hosts’ defence. Levy Amunga added a well-worked try before Andy Cole capped off a blistering first half, sending KCB into the break with a commanding 40-3 lead.

The second half saw KCB maintain control despite Levy Amunga’s temporary absence in the sin bin. The highlight came when Sheldon Kahi marked his debut for the club in style, crossing the whitewash to score KCB’s final try of the afternoon and seal a convincing 45-3 victory.
Reflecting on his debut, Kahi described the moment as special and praised the support within the squad.

“It is a huge honour to make my debut for KCB Rugby and even more special to score. The boys really backed me, and the systems made it easy to settle in. This is a team with big ambitions, and I am grateful to be part of the journey,” said Kahi.

The result reinforces KCB Rugby’s growing cohesion and attacking confidence as the season gathers pace. Attention now shifts to their next fixture, where the bankers will return home to host Nondescripts on January 31, 2026, aiming to build on this momentum and continue their push at the top end of the Kenya Cup standings.
