The 2025/2026 Kenya Cup season gained momentum over the weekend as Matchweek Eight delivered a mix of ruthless dominance, statement victories and some close finishes across the country.

At the KCB Sports Club in Ruaraka, KCB Rugby Club underlined their title credentials with a commanding 60–16 win over MMUST Rugby Club. The Bankers, who have remained firmly in the top three all season, showcased their attacking depth with wave after wave of structured phases and clinical finishing out wide. MMUST showed resilience in patches, but KCB’s superior game management and forward dominance proved too much over the 80 minutes.

At Ngong Racecourse, fans witnessed one of the day’s biggest statements as Daystar Falcons edged out Kenya Harlequin FC 30–23. In a match that swung back and forth, Daystar’s composure in the final quarter made the difference. Quins threatened a late comeback, but crucial defensive stands and accurate kicking from the tee allowed the Falcons to seal a memorable result that could prove vital in their mid-table ambitions.

At the Kenyatta University Grounds, Kabras Sugar were made to work for their 26–16 victory over KU Blak Blad. Playing away from their Kakamega fortress, the defending champions showed composure and tactical discipline to control territory and capitalise on key moments. Blak Blad fed off home support and physical intensity, particularly at the breakdown, but Kabras’ experience and structured play ultimately tilted the contest in their favour.

Also at Ngong Racecourse, it was another clinical afternoon for Menengai Oilers, who cruised past Nondescripts RFC 41–9. The Oilers’ backline spark was evident, slicing through defensive gaps with speed and precision. Nondies fought bravely but struggled to contain Nakuru’s fluid transitions from set-piece to open play.

One of the most entertaining fixtures of the round unfolded at Strathmore University, where Strathmore Leos narrowly defeated Kisumu RFC 43–39. It was a try-fest that kept fans on the edge of their seats, with both sides throwing caution to the wind. Kisumu’s attacking intent nearly stole the headlines, but the Leos held their nerve in the closing stages to secure a crucial home victory.

Elsewhere, Nakuru RFC produced a dominant 48–30 win over Impala RFC, flexing their attacking muscle in front of their home supporters at Nakuru Athletic Club. Impala had moments of promise, particularly in broken play, but Nakuru’s consistency and physical edge made the difference.

As the table tightens and the race for playoff positions intensifies, Kabras Sugar and Menengai Oilers continue to set the pace at the top, with KCB closely shadowing them. However, with surprises like Daystar’s win over Quins and the narrow margins seen in Strathmore, the 2025/2026 Kenya Cup season is proving that no fixture can be taken for granted.

With the crucial part of the season approaching, fans can expect more intense matches, strategic changes, and high-stakes rugby in the coming weeks. The Kenya Cup is not only meeting expectations but also raising the standard of club rugby in the region.
