From TikTok to the ring: Mbavu Destroyer vs Majembe online feud explodes into high-stakes boxing showdown

The upcoming bout between Kenyan amateur boxer Majembe and DIY gym freak Mbavu Destroyer is indeed the product of our time.

What began as harmless social media banter before exploding into full-blown feud has now found a better vent… the boxing ring – with the winner expected to take home KES 1 million at the end of the night at the Moi International Sports Centre Kasarani, Nairobi, on 4 April 2026.

Farmed on TikTok, the rivalry grew as the two antagonists started having a go at each other after Mbavu Destroyer boasted that he would have Majembe for lunch despite the latter’s recent success in the boxing ring.

Soon the comment sections went ablaze as fans predicted who would come out on top.

Content creator Oga Obinna, ever one to capitalise on trends, saw the opportunity and amped up things for a now highly invested audience when he invited the charged fighters on his show. Featuring well-orchestrated dust-ups, the entire country was sold – make this official.

A gaming company picked up the organisation and prize-money tab, and President William Ruto jumped in too, promising two thousand tickets for fans.

Now, as excitement builds, many are eager to see which one of the ‘loudmouths’ will prevail in the ring, away from virtual pugilism.

Majembe and Mbavu’s training and fighting background

Majembe, born Portifas Odipo, has built a reputation as a technically disciplined boxer whose rise to fame was influenced by social media. His clips showing his boxing drills and potential opened multiple boxing challenges and attracted thousands of viewers.

He is currently working with a personal trainer who is instilling more skills and tactical discipline. According to reports, Majembe’s training routine includes intense workouts and a strict diet focused on protein to improve strength and endurance ahead of major fights.

There will be blood: Majembe and Mbavu Destroyer.

He has already participated in several fights and won, and the upcoming fight has positioned him as a technically prepared fighter.

Meanwhile, unlike many fighters who train in professional gyms, Mbavu Destroyer, real name Ferdinand Omondi, became famous for his unusual, simple and improvised training methods, where in his preparations he uses building blocks and stones to maintain power and toughness.

Despite lacking proper coaching and modern equipment, Mbavu Destroyer, who also goes by his other street moniker Weka Mawe, is still determined, and he majorly relies on physical strength in preparation for the coming fight against Majembe.

Fans’ favourite

The reactions to their online taunts were massively entertaining as fans picked their best fighter. Many social media users chose Mbavu Destroyer for his confidence, power and toughness, while others chose Majembe for his technical training and fighting skills.

Many Kenyans have treated the fight as entertainment by creating jokes and memes around it on social media platforms.

Nonetheless, many people still have doubts, asking whether the two are ready for the professional boxing match. Online, some people commented that one of the boxers needs more practice, with others saying it is too late for that.

The match has also caught the eye of celebrities and influencers. Famous figures in Kenya have declared their support for the two fighters, increasing engagement.

‘Brains vs brawn’ – the showdown awaits us

Following their online jibes, Kenyans have described the match as a ‘brains vs brawn’ showdown.

Majembe is believed to be more technical in his boxing styles and has received praise from his fans for his strategic approach and calmer personality.

For Mbavu Destroyer, his fans have described him as aggressive, possessing raw power, and confident in his trash talk and ability to handle comebacks.

As the countdown to 4th April continues, the clash between Majembe and Mbavu Destroyer is still sparking excitement online.

When the two finally step into the ring at Kasarani Stadium, fans who have followed the insults on social media will witness the outcomes of the drama. The question still remains: will the confidence shown online translate into victory?
