The 2026 edition of the CAVB African Women’s Volleyball Club Championship burst into life in Cairo on Monday, with early contenders laying down strong markers on an opening day defined by dominant wins and statement performances.
Hosts Egypt wasted no time asserting themselves as title favourites, with Al Ahly Women’s Volleyball Club delivering the most emphatic result of Day One. The Cairo giants dismantled Ethiopia’s NAL in straight sets (25-4, 25-9, 25-9), underlining their pedigree and intent in Pool A.
In Pool B, Kenya’s Kenya Pipeline Company Volleyball Club also made a commanding start, brushing aside Ghana’s KSC 3-0 (25-19, 25-21, 25-13). The Kenyan side looked sharp in all departments, combining defensive discipline with clinical finishing to secure a comfortable opening win.
Elsewhere in the same pool, Burundi’s GLS were handed a walkover victory after DR Congo’s VCL forfeited their match, with the result recorded as 3-0 (25-0, 25-0, 25-0).

Pool C delivered one of the more competitive encounters of the day, as Nigeria’s Nigeria Customs Service Volleyball Club staged a spirited comeback to defeat Uganda’s KCC 3-1. After dropping the first set 24-26, the Nigerians rallied to take the next three sets (25-20, 25-16, 25-19), showcasing resilience and depth.
Tunisia’s CFC, however, ensured there was little drama in their corresponding fixture, sweeping past Kenya’s DCI in straight sets (25-22, 25-19, 25-12) to underline their credentials as serious contenders.
In Pool D, Cameroon’s LTV wrapped up the day with a solid 3-1 victory over Nigeria’s VPC. After a dominant opening set (25-6), LTV weathered a brief pushback before closing out the match (25-22, 19-25, 25-13).
With several heavyweights flexing their muscles early, Day One set the tone for what promises to be a fiercely contested tournament as clubs battle for continental supremacy.
The tournament is scheduled to take place from 13 to 24 April 2026 in the Egyptian capital.
