Kenya’s dominance at the 2026 African Women’s Volleyball Club Championship continued on Monday as KCB Women’s Volleyball Club powered into the semi-finals with a commanding straight-sets victory in Cairo.

The 2022 African champions brushed aside Cameroon’s Mayo Kano Evolution (MKE) 3-0 (25-15, 25-18, 25-21) in the quarter-finals, extending their remarkable unbeaten run in the tournament without dropping a single set.

The victory sets up a blockbuster all-Kenyan semi-final against Kenya Pipeline Company Volleyball Club, who also advanced after defeating compatriots DCI 3-1 in their quarter-final clash.

KCB head coach Japheth Munala hailed his team’s consistency and discipline, noting their ability to maintain focus throughout the tournament. “Reaching the semi-final without losing a set shows the character and quality of this team. Now the focus shifts to Kenya Pipeline, which will be another big battle,” he said.

Team captain Mercy Moim echoed the sentiment, emphasising the squad’s collective effort and readiness for the next challenge. She acknowledged the familiarity between the two Kenyan sides, pointing out that several Pipeline players previously featured for KCB, adding an extra layer of intrigue to the encounter.

KCB’s run in Cairo has been nothing short of dominant. The bankers topped Pool D with maximum points after sweeping aside Nigeria’s Vipers, Seychelles’ ARSU Ladies and Cameroon’s Litto Team Volleyball in straight sets. They maintained that momentum in the knockout rounds, dispatching Burundi’s GLC in the Round of 16 before sealing their quarter-final berth with another clinical performance.

The broader tournament in Cairo has been defined by strong performances from North and East African sides, with Egyptian hosts and Kenyan clubs emerging as early frontrunners. The competition, organised annually, brings together Africa’s top club teams and serves as the continent’s premier stage for women’s volleyball.

This year’s edition has seen a clear pattern of dominance from leading teams, with multiple matches decided in straight sets as contenders assert their authority early. Kenyan teams in particular have stood out, underlining the country’s depth in women’s volleyball and its growing influence on the continental stage.

The upcoming semi-final between KCB and Pipeline now guarantees Kenya a place in the final, while also renewing one of the fiercest rivalries in African club volleyball. With both sides boasting international experience and a history of domestic success, the clash is expected to be one of the highlights of the tournament.

For KCB, the objective remains clear: a return to the top of African volleyball. For Pipeline, it is an opportunity to reclaim continental glory.

Either way, Kenya’s grip on the championship is tightening as the tournament heads into its decisive phase in Cairo.
