KCB Rugby Club successfully defended the Kenya National Sevens Circuit title after finishing the 2026 season with 115 points, sealing the overall championship at the conclusion of the Christie 7s at the RFUEA Grounds in Nairobi on Sunday evening.
The Bankers were crowned champions for the second consecutive year after a consistent campaign that saw them win three of the six legs of the circuit – the Prinsloo 7s, Kabeberi 7s, and Embu 7s.
KCB wrapped up the season by finishing third at the Christie 7s, overcoming arch-rivals Kabras Sugar 5-0 in the third-place playoff to put the finishing touch on another successful campaign.
Head Coach Andrew Amonde said: “Winning the National 7s Circuit is never easy, and defending the title makes this achievement even more special. The players have shown tremendous commitment, discipline, and consistency throughout the season. We had our challenges along the way, but the team remained focused on the bigger objective, which was to retain the overall title.”
KCB’s journey at the Christie 7s saw them produce a commanding performance in the quarter-finals, thrashing NYS Spades 31-5 to book a place in the last four.
However, the Bankers fell short in their semi-final encounter after losing 12-19 to Strathmore Leos, before regrouping to edge Kabras Sugar in the third-place playoff.
KCB player Nygel Amaitsa said the title was a reward for the collective effort and hard work demonstrated by the entire squad throughout the circuit.
“This has been a demanding circuit, and every team came prepared to compete. For us, the focus was always to remain consistent and collect as many points as possible in every tournament. To finish as champions and successfully defend our title is a proud moment for the entire team and the KCB family,” said Amaitsa.
The overall triumph further underlines KCB Rugby’s dominance in the shorter version of the game, with the Bankers combining strong performances across the circuit to retain the crown they won last year.
With the National 7s Circuit now concluded, attention for the Bankers shifts to the 15-a-side version of the game as the team begins preparations for the next phase of the rugby calendar.
KCB Rugby will be seeking to carry the momentum and winning mentality built during the successful 7s campaign into the upcoming 15s season.
