Close to 300 golfers from Nairobi and neighbouring clubs are expected to converge at the par-73 Ruiru Golf Course for the 4th edition of the annual Legendary Golf Tournament this weekend.
The tournament will be played over the club’s challenging 18-hole course, with last year’s champion Catherine Kamene returning to defend her title against a strong field that includes Peter Nuthu, John Timbe, and Ruth Wang’ombe, who will be among the golfers to watch as they battle for honours.
The tournament will tee off with the morning field at 6:30 a.m., while the afternoon action is scheduled to run from 10:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., giving participants and spectators a full day of golf action.
Speaking ahead of the tournament, Ruiru Sports Club Captain Justus Mathenge said: “We are delighted to welcome close to 300 golfers for the fourth edition of the Legendary Golf Tournament. The continued growth of this event demonstrates the strong bond that golf creates among people from different backgrounds. We look forward to a competitive day on the course, but also to the camaraderie and networking that have become an important part of this tournament.”
The tournament also highlights Ruiru Sports Club’s continued growth as a preferred destination for major golfing events. The club has continued to host a diverse calendar of tournaments, including Kenya Ladies Golf Union’s Golfer of the Year (GOTY), corporate tournaments, and social golf events. Among recent events hosted at the club was the Swine and Wine Tournament, where Stephen Kungu won, further underscoring the club’s growing stature on Kenya’s golfing calendar.
The fourth edition of the Legendary Golf Tournament is supported by First Assurance, Legendary Golfers, and Tropical Brands, with the sponsors helping to bring together golfers for a day that combines competition, networking, and entertainment. Golfers will have an opportunity to enjoy mid-course nyama choma, adding a distinctly Kenyan touch to the tournament experience. The day’s activities will culminate in an evening of live music, allowing participants to unwind and celebrate after a day on the fairways.
