The draw for the 2025 FIBA AfroBasket will take place on Saturday April 19 in Luanda, Angola, the FIBA regional office for Africa has announced.
This year’s 16-nation AfroBasket will take place from August 12-24, 2025.
It’s the fourth time that Angola has hosted the now quadrennial tournament, after 1989, 1999 and 2007 when it was a biennial showpiece.
The 20 national teams played a total of 59 matches over the course of three qualifying windows in six African cities.
The qualifiers began with Window 1 in Monastir, Tunisia, and Cairo, Egypt, in February 2024, and continued with Window 2 in Dakar, Senegal, before making their final stops this month in Antananarivo, Rabat and Tripoli.
Of the 20 national teams that took part in the qualifiers, Central African Republic, Gabon, Kenya and Morocco were eliminated, while 16 teams qualified for the final round.
The teams that have qualified for the continent’s premier basketball tournament include Angola (hosts), Tunisia (reigning champions), Guinea, Cape Verde, Libya, Nigeria, Uganda, Senegal, Cameroon, Rwanda, Madagascar, Côte d’Ivoire, Egypt, South Sudan, DR Congo and Mali.
