The Global Association of Mixed Martial Arts (GAMMA) has been officially approved as a Signatory to the World Anti-Doping Code by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), marking a significant milestone in the sport’s ongoing professionalisation.
This approval reinforces GAMMA’s commitment to upholding the highest standards of clean sport and athlete integrity. As a recognised WADA Signatory, GAMMA joins a global network of International Federations, anti-doping organizations, and National Olympic Committees dedicated to ensuring fair competition.
The World Anti-Doping Code is the cornerstone of international anti-doping efforts. It outlines strict regulations, including a list of prohibited substances and treatment methods, ensuring all signatories adhere to a unified set of rules and regulations. WADA is responsible for monitoring compliance, and all signatories must accept, implement, and enforce the Code’s policies.
GAMMA President Alexander Engelhardt highlighted the significance of this achievement: “We are proud to be recognised by WADA as an official Code Signatory. This milestone is the result of years of dedicated work to align our anti-doping programme with the highest international standards. This fantastic news comes on the heels of an incredibly successful 2024, where MMA made its debut at the African Games. We extend our sincere gratitude to WADA and the International Testing Agency (ITA) for their invaluable support and guidance throughout this process.”
GAMMA’s Anti-Doping Programme was launched in 2020, ensuring all athletes receive comprehensive clean sport education during major championships. That same year, the first Code-compliant doping tests were conducted at the European MMA Championships in Georgia. Since then, testing has been a standard part of every GAMMA championship event.
With this new status as a WADA Code Signatory, GAMMA is committed to maintaining full compliance with evolving international anti-doping standards. The organisation will continue working closely with WADA and ITA to ensure its policies and practices align with the latest updates to the Code and International Standards.
Clean sport is a shared responsibility, and GAMMA remains fully dedicated to protecting the integrity of Mixed Martial Arts.
