A new study has revealed Formula 1 tracks that are giving drivers a hard time in 2025.

The research shows Monaco has reported the lowest average lap speeds in the 2025 F1 calendar so far.

The study conducted by iGaming specialist Martynas Norvilas and sports journalist with over 20 years of experience as a professional player and industry expert.

Norvilas analysed race winners’ performance across all tracks until August 3, 2025, using the ‘Seconds per kilometer’ metric.

For each Grand Prix, the winner’s total race time was divided by the number of laps to calculate the average lap time, which was then divided by the track length to determine the average time per kilometer.

Based on these calculations, the 10 tracks with the highest average seconds per kilometre were identified as the slowest/trickiest of the season as follows:

Monaco ranks first as the most challenging Formula 1 track, with drivers averaging 23.18 seconds per kilometer. The iconic Monte Carlo circuit spans just 3.337 kilometres per lap, and with 78 laps to complete, even the race winner clocked in at 6034 seconds.

Australia ranks second, with Albert Park demanding an average of 20.36 seconds per kilometre. With a 5.278 km circuit length and 57 laps, it’s a race where drivers must balance speed with careful tyre and fuel management.

Great Britain comes in third, with an average of 19.05 seconds per kilometer at the historic Silverstone Circuit. Though the track is 5.891 kilometers long, its 52-lap race saw a total time of 5,836 seconds.

Hungary ranks fourth, with the Hungaroring averaging 18.66 seconds per kilometer. Though not the longest track at 4.381 km, its tight corners and limited overtaking zones slow the pace significantly over 70 laps.

Bahrain ranks fifth, where drivers average 18.60 seconds per kilometer at the Bahrain International Circuit. The track measures 5.412 kilometers, and over 57 laps, drivers recorded a total time of 5,739 seconds.

Spain (6th) recorded an average of 18.14 seconds per kilometer, followed by Canada (7th) at 18.06, China (8th) at 17.87, Emilia-Romagna (9th) at 17.76, and Miami (10th) at 17.28.

Commenting on the study, Norvilas said: “Monaco, Australia, and Great Britain show that in Formula 1, slower doesn’t mean less exciting.

“These circuits demand the highest levels of driver concentration, technical setup, and race strategy.

“In fact, the slower the track, the more crucial it becomes for constructors to build adaptable cars, and for drivers to execute every corner perfectly.”

Below is a summary of the study:

  • Monaco ranks first with an average of 23.18 seconds per kilometer, making it the most challenging Formula 1 track of the season.
  • Australia (2nd) and the United Kingdom (3rd), with average times of 20.36 and 19.05 seconds per kilometer, respectively.
  • Miami, despite its fast reputation, rounds out the top 10 with an average of 17.28 seconds per kilometer.
