In a remarkable show of endurance and community spirit, Jonathan Leonard successfully completed a grueling 24-hour non-stop burpee challenge, raising KES1,070,000 to support projects that improve the well-being of people with disabilities in Kenya.
Hosted at The Hub Karen, the event drew fitness enthusiasts, families, and shoppers, transforming the mall into a vibrant community-driven burpee theatre. The challenge not only tested human endurance but also underscored the power of collective action in advancing inclusion.
“We are honored to host such an impactful event at The Hub Karen. It is inspiring to witness the energy, generosity, and spirit of the community coming together to create meaningful change. It also speaks to our vision of creating a community hub where people can connect, engage, and collaborate,” said general manager at The Hub Karen, Jacobus Visser.
Beyond pushing the boundaries of physical performance, the Mazoezi for Mobility Burpee Challenge was designed to raise funds, spark conversations, and inspire action around disability inclusion in Kenya.
“Crossing the million-shilling mark while completing the challenge was an unforgettable moment. But this was never about me. The main objective was to provide dignity, opportunity, and inclusion to persons with disabilities. Every shilling raised is a step towards breaking barriers and opening doors for people living with disabilities,” said Jonathan Leonard, the endurance athlete behind the initiative.
The proceeds will go directly to the Association for the Physically Disabled of Kenya (APDK) and Riziki Source – two organisations committed to providing mobility aids, promoting disability inclusion, and creating dignified work opportunities for people with disabilities.
The event also highlighted the growing role of the fitness community in driving social change and mobilising resources for meaningful causes. Organisers expressed optimism that the challenge will become a model for future initiatives blending wellness, endurance, and philanthropy.
