Morocco is set to enter next month’s TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire as the highest-ranked team, according to the latest FIFA Rankings released on Thursday.
The Atlas Lions maintain their leadership position on the continent just three weeks before the prestigious tournament kicks off.
This accomplishment not only signifies their status as the top-ranked team but also solidifies their position as the leading football nation in Africa for the year’s final rankings.
The minimal changes in the last FIFA rankings of the year offer a significant confidence boost for Morocco as they prepare for the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations. Senegal and Tunisia closely follow them in the rankings.
The top ten countries also include Algeria, Egypt, Nigeria, Cameroon, Cote d’Ivoire, Mali, and Burkina Faso.
Reflecting on the statistical performance of African teams throughout the year, a total of 231 matches were played, comprising 91 friendly matches, 88 CAF competition qualifiers, and 52 FIFA competition qualifications.
Algeria and Madagascar emerged as the most active national teams, each participating in 16 matches. The list encompasses 53 African nations, with Eritrea excluded due to inactivity for over four years.
