LALIGA Matchday 28 preview: Home games for the top three – all fixtures & kick-off times

The 28th matchday of the LALIGA EA SPORTS season is coming up this weekend, and every point is so valuable at this stage of the season. At the very top of the table, the teams placed first, second and third all have home fixtures this weekend, so will expect to pick up three points.

As for Villarreal CF, the club currently in fourth, they pay a visit to Deportivo Alavés on Friday night. The Basque side put in an impressive performance in new coach Quique Sánchez Flores’ debut last weekend, before ultimately losing away at Valencia CF. They’ll hope to turn the new manager bounce into some points this Friday, but it won’t be easy against Marcelino’s well-drilled unit.

There are four games taking place across Saturday, starting with Girona FC vs Athletic Club at the Estadi Montilivi. These teams have never played out a goalless draw in their history, so this should be an entertaining duel to kick off Saturday’s action.

Next up is a derby in the capital, with Atlético de Madrid taking on Getafe CF. Although José Bordalás has celebrated just one win in 16 matches against Diego Simeone over the course of his career, his Getafe CF side enter this matchday in excellent form, with four victories from their past five fixtures. They’ll hope to keep that run going by causing an upset at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano.

One team that is not in form is Real Oviedo, who last celebrated a victory back in January and who remain rooted to the bottom of the table. At home against Valencia CF, one club who could still be sucked back into the relegation battle, this is something of a must-win game for the Asturian side this Saturday.

The Saturday night game this weekend takes place at the Bernabéu, where Real Madrid take on an out-of-form Elche CF. After achieving an impressive victory over Manchester City in the Champions League in midweek, Álvaro Arbeloa will hope to replicate that performance in league play to put the pressure on leaders FC Barcelona

The first of Sunday’s games is a Mediterranean battle between RCD Mallorca and RCD Espanyol. Martín Demichelis is the new coach of the islanders, and achieved a draw in his first game, and he takes on one of his former clubs in this match-up.

The action then moves to the Spotify Camp Nou, where FC Barcelona host Sevilla FC. After suffering a 4-1 loss to the Andalusians earlier in the campaign, their biggest loss of this league season, Barça will set look to put that behind them by putting on a show here. The home fans may be happy to see Alexis Sánchez back at the stadium where he enjoyed so much success, but they’ll want nothing less than three points.

Real Betis vs RC Celta is an important game in the European qualification race, with these clubs entering this matchday in fifth and sixth positions. Curiously, this match comes in between the two legs of their respective Europa League Last 16 ties, and both clubs want to return to continental competition next season too.

Real Sociedad host the Sunday night game, taking on CA Osasuna. These sides have already met twice this season, with La Real winning on both occasions, a 3-1 away win in LALIGA EA SPORTS and a victory on penalties in the Copa del Rey. They’ll hope to make it three from three this weekend.

The final fixture of this matchday is Rayo Vallecano vs Levante UD, and Los Franjirrojos already defeated the newly promoted side 3-0 in Valencia earlier this season. Unbeaten in their past five, Rayo Vallecano will be confident of securing another positive result in this last game of Matchday 28.
