In the boys’ section, Uganda underlined their credentials as one of the tournament favourites with a commanding run in Group A. A decisive 3-0 victory over Morocco, coupled with an earlier 6-0 triumph against DR Congo, saw them finish top of the group on 7 points.

Morocco secured second place with 6 points, doing enough across their matches – including a crucial win over hosts Zimbabwe – to progress to the last four.

Zimbabwe, despite showing resilience in draws against Uganda and DR Congo, fell short of qualification, while DR Congo endured a difficult campaign.

Group B produced another unbeaten group winner in last season’s runner’s up Senegal, who topped the standings with 7 points following a narrow 1-0 win over Benin and a 1-1 draw against Zambia. Benin joined them in the semi-finals after finishing second with 4 points, edging out defending champions, Tanzania and Zambia, who both ended their campaigns with 2 points apiece.

In the girls’ competition, Zambia delivered one of the standout performances of the tournament so far, finishing top of Group A with a perfect 9 points from three matches. Their consistency and control were evident throughout, including a key victory over Morocco, who advanced as runners-up with 4 points. DR Congo and hosts Zimbabwe were unable to break into the top two, despite spirited efforts.

Group B saw Burkina Faso emerge as table-toppers with 7 points, maintaining an unbeaten record and sealing top spot with a crucial win over reigning champions, Ghana.

Ghana also progressed to the semi-finals with 6 points, bolstered by an emphatic victory over Guinea earlier in the competition.

There will be action on Wednesday with teams that have been knocked out afforded an opportunity to play for positions.
