Kenya, Egypt, Rwanda and Cameroon have reached the semi-finals of the Women’s African Nations Volleyball Championship Nairobi 2026 following matches played on Tuesday, 1 September.
Kenya continues its title defense after securing their qualification for the semi-finals by beating Algeria 3-1 (21-25, 25-7, 25-15, 25-18).
Algeria had made a perfect start to their quarter-final by winning the first set 25-21. But the Kenyans immediately responded with a one-sided second set, 25-7, before maintaining their control in the following two sets.
Tata finished as the match’s top scorer with 15 points, including 8 attacks, 3 blocks, and 4 aces. Adhiambo and Masai each scored 13 points. Masai was particularly effective at the net with 7 blocks, while Adhiambo added 9 attacks, 3 blocks, and 1 ace. Belinda and Sande also contributed 10 points each.
Kenya built their success on a clear superiority in blocking, with 18 points to 4, but also in serving with 11 aces to 4. The Kenyans also took the lead in attack, 41 points to 32.
For Algeria, Abderrahim was the most effective player with 12 points, 11 of which were from offense. Kebir added 6 points, while Soualmi scored 5.
With this victory, Kenya joins Cameroon in the semi-finals. A match between two heavyweights of African women’s volleyball: the Kenyans, defending champions and ten-time African champions, against the Cameroonians, three-time continental champions.
Egypt defeats Tunisia 3-0
Egypt secured their qualification for the semi-finals of the Women’s African Nations Volleyball Championship – Nairobi 2026, by clearly dominating Tunisia 3-0 (25-20, 25-14, 25-9), this Tuesday, September 1, 2026. The match lasted 1 hour and 5 minutes.
After a closely contested first set, Egypt gradually asserted its dominance. The statistics reflect this control: 45 attacking points compared to Tunisia’s 29, 11 blocks to Tunisia’s 6, and 4 aces to Tunisia’s none. Egypt also capitalized on 15 Tunisian errors.
Meeto was one of the key players in Egypt’s victory with 18 points, including 13 attacks, 4 blocks, and 1 ace. She was well supported by Meawad, who scored 14 points (12 attacks, 1 block, and 1 ace), while M. Ghazal contributed 13 points, including 3 blocks. Yasso rounded out this collective performance with 12 points.
Despite Tunisia’s defeat, Abda N. delivered a strong offensive performance, finishing with 18 points, all scored on offense. Behind her, Toumi E. scored 6 points, while Baazaoui A. distinguished herself with 3 blocks.
Thanks to this victory, Egypt joins Rwanda in the semi-finals, following Rwanda’s qualification at the expense of Ghana. The two teams will face off for a place in the final of Nairobi 2026. The tournament bracket had Egypt-Tunisia and Rwanda-Ghana in the same half of the quarter-finals.
Rwanda defeats Ghana 3-1
Rwanda continues its remarkable journey at the Women’s African Nations Volleyball Championship – Nairobi 2026. The Rwandans secured their place in the semi-finals by dominating Ghana 3-1 (25-17, 24-26, 25-19, 25-18) on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, at the end of a quarter-final played in 1 hour and 45 minutes.
After winning the first set, Rwanda saw Ghana respond by taking the second set 26-24. But the Rwandans quickly regained control to take the next two sets and close out the match with 99 points to 80.
Tuyishime was the most decisive player of the match with 22 points, including 20 attacks and 2 blocks. She was perfectly supported by Munezero, who scored 14 points (11 attacks, 1 block and 2 aces), and Divine, who finished with 12 points.
Collectively, Rwanda widened the gap primarily in attack, scoring 52 points compared to Ghana’s 36. However, the Ghanaians were slightly superior in blocking (11-10) and serving (5-4).
For Ghana, Mawuse finished as the top scorer with 14 points, 13 of which were attack points. Bedawu added 12 points, including 3 aces, while Huzeifa particularly distinguished herself at the net with 5 blocks for a total of 7 points.
With this success, Rwanda joins the semi-finals of Nairobi 2026 and confirms its excellent momentum in a competition where it had already finished the group stage undefeated.
Cameroon dominates Uganda 3-0
Cameroon has secured its qualification for the semi-finals of the Women’s African Nations Volleyball Championship – Nairobi 2026. The Cameroonians dominated Uganda 3-0 (25-18, 25-20, 25-18), this Tuesday, September 1st, at the end of a quarter-final completed in 1 hour and 11 minutes.
The Lionesses made the difference at the net, scoring 36 points on offense against Uganda’s 31 and 10 blocks against 7. They also took advantage of opposing errors, collecting 26 points from Ugandan mistakes, compared to 16 for their opponents.
While Cathy finished as Uganda’s top scorer with 11 points (8 on attack, 2 on block, and 1 on serve), Cameroon opted for a more balanced distribution of its players. Adiana led Cameroon with 8 points, followed by Baran, Moussol, and Djeutchoko, each with 7 points. Baran particularly distinguished herself at the net with 4 blocks. Blamdaï and Nabyong each added 6 points.
Cameroonian captain Bikatal Berthrade Simone did not hide her satisfaction after this new victory without losing a set.
“After this match against Uganda, we are very happy. It is a source of pride for the Cameroonian people, for us players, for the staff, for the whole team,” she said.
The captain now wants to maintain the same determination going forward: “We are ready as usual, with a steely resolve. We promise the Cameroonian people that we will give everything, just as we have done so far.”
Yende Tiadjoue Lavoisier remains demanding
Despite qualifying, Cameroonian coach Yende Tiadjoue Lavoisier believes his team can do much better.
“I always get that feeling of joy and satisfaction after winning a match, especially when it’s a decisive match. It qualifies us for the next stage of the competition,” he explained.
But the coach wasn’t entirely satisfied with the performance: “I could describe our match today as mediocre. But now we have to put this match aside. The next step will be more important.”
On the Ugandan side, coach Soita Protus Barasa notably regretted the numerous mistakes made by his team: “My players made a lot of mistakes ,” he admitted after the match.
With this victory, Cameroon reaches the semi-finals and continues its quest for the continental title. Still undefeated and without having conceded a single set since the start of the competition, the Lionesses are also getting closer to the major international objectives linked to Nairobi 2026: the 2027 World Championship and the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games.
