Kenya, Rwanda, Algeria and Uganda have secured their place in the quarter-finals of the Women’s African Nations Volleyball Championship – Nairobi 2026, with the last batch of Round of 16 matches to be played today at the Kasarani Arena.
Kenya defeated Nigeria 3 sets to 0 (25-21, 25-17, 25-15) on Saturday, 29 August in the Round of 16 game. Malkia Stars entered this knockout stage after finishing top of Group A without dropping a set.
After a closely contested first set, which they won 25-21, the Kenyans gradually imposed their rhythm to take the next two sets 25-17 and 25-15. The match ended in just 1 hour and 4 minutes.
Masai (#11) and Tata (#24) finished as the top scorers of the match with 14 points each. Masai particularly shone at the net with 8 winning attacks and 5 blocks, in addition to a point on her serve. Tata, for her part, scored 11 points on attacks, 1 on blocks, and 2 on serves.
Belinda (#6) also contributed with 9 points, including 7 on attack and 2 on serve, while Adhiambo (#2) and Milka (#27) added 6 points each.
Kenya made the difference primarily on offense, scoring 41 points compared to Nigeria’s 20. The Kenyans also dominated in blocking (6-1) and serving (8-2).
For Nigeria, Ijeoma (#6) and Maryann (#12) were the top scorers with 7 points each, all scored on offense. Christy P (#2) added 4 points.
With this 3-0 victory, Kenya, the host country and continental title holder, continues its journey towards the quarter-finals and remains in the running to defend its African crown.
Rwanda outclasses Burkina Faso 3-0
Rwanda secured its place in the quarterfinals of the Women’s African Nations Volleyball Championship – Nairobi 2026, with a resounding 3-0 victory over Burkina Faso (25-19, 25-16, 25-8) on Sunday, August 30, 2026. This match was a Round of 16 game. Rwanda reached this stage after a perfect run in Group D, with three wins in three matches.
After a relatively close first set (25-19), the Rwandans gradually increased their dominance, winning the second set 25-16 before cruising through the third 25-8. The match ended in 1 hour and 8 minutes.
Divine (#14) finished as the game’s top scorer with 16 points, thanks in particular to 14 successful attacks and 2 blocks. She was perfectly supported by Munezero (#11), who scored 14 points, all on offense.
Dusabe (#20) also made his mark with 10 points: 5 on attack, 3 on block, and 2 on serve. Tuyishime (#4) added 6 points, while Ndagijimana (#2) contributed 4 points, including 2 on serve.
Rwanda made the difference primarily in attack, scoring 46 points to Burkina Faso’s 24. The Rwandans also gained a slight advantage in blocking (7-6) and serving (4-2).
For Burkina Faso, Sali (#4) was the most productive player with 10 points — 7 attacks, 2 blocks and 1 service winner. Yasmine (#5), Christine (#9) and Minougou (#13) each scored 6 points.
With this new victory without losing a single set, Rwanda continues its excellent run in Nairobi and reaches the quarter-finals, remaining in contention for the continental title and the important international stakes associated with this edition.
Algeria beat Senegal 3-0
Algeria secured their place in the quarter-finals of the Women’s African Nations Volleyball Championship – Nairobi 2026, by clearly dominating Senegal 3 sets to 0 (25-15, 25-17, 25-16), this Saturday, August 29, 2026. This match was for the round of 16 of the competition, scheduled at the Kasarani Arena.
The Algerian women controlled the match from start to finish, completing it in just 1 hour and 10 minutes. They made the difference particularly on serve, scoring 10 direct points compared to only one for Senegal, while also taking the lead in blocking (6-3). In attack, the gap was much smaller: 26 points for Algeria against 25 for Senegal.
Two Algerian players finished as their team’s top scorers with 10 points each. Rahmani (#8) delivered a particularly well-rounded performance with 2 attack points, 4 blocks, and 4 service winners. Abderrahim (#11) distinguished herself primarily on offense with 9 attack winners and 1 service point.
Rabah Mazari (#14) also played an important role with 7 points, including 3 on attack and 4 on serve, while Chahla (#19) added 6 points thanks to 3 attacks, 2 blocks and 1 winning serve.
In the Senegalese ranks, Zeyna (#6) finished as her team’s top scorer with 9 points, including 8 on attack and 1 on serve. Bigue (#4) and Dieynaba (#10) each scored 5 points, while Sokhna (#5) added 4.
Finishing second in Group D with two wins and six points in the first round, Algeria continues its journey in Nairobi and reaches the quarter-finals.
Uganda dominates DR Congo 3-0
Uganda qualified for the quarterfinals of the Women’s African Nations Volleyball Championship – Nairobi 2026 – by defeating the Democratic Republic of Congo 3 sets to 0 (25-16, 27-25, 25-18) on Saturday, August 29, 2026, at the Kasarani Arena. This match was a Round of 16 game.
After a decisive 25-16 victory in the first set, the Ugandans faced a hard-fought second set. DR Congo pushed their opponents to extra time, but Uganda held on to win 27-25, before closing out the third set 25-18. The match lasted 1 hour and 17 minutes.
Collectively, Uganda made the difference thanks to superior offensive efficiency, scoring 42 points on offense compared to DR Congo’s 30. The Ugandans also took the lead in blocking (12-9) and serving (5-3).
Tush was Uganda’s top scorer with 15 points, including 14 attacks and 1 block. She was well supported by Alungat, who scored 13 points with a very well-rounded performance: 6 attacks, 4 blocks, and 3 service winners. Cathy also scored 13 points, all attacks.
