In a significant milestone for South African women’s football, forward Jermaine Seopesenwe has been celebrated for her 100th appearance in national team colors, joining an elite group of African women footballers.
This remarkable achievement was marked during a Paris 2024 Olympic qualifier, where South Africa edged Tanzania 1-0, advancing to a crucial showdown against Nigeria for a spot in the global tournament in France.
Seopesenwe, a key player in both Banyana Banyana’s historic TotalEnergies Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) victory in Morocco and their commendable FIFA Women’s World Cup journey to the Round of 16, attributes her success to the unwavering support from her coach, teammates, and the broader football community.
Reflecting on her 14-year tenure with the national team, she emphasized the collective effort and growth that have propelled the team to new heights. “It’s been a privilege and honor to represent my country, and I owe a lot to those who have supported me along the way,” Seopesenwe stated, acknowledging the significant role played by her coach, Desiree Ellis, in her career and the team’s progress.

With this achievement, Seopesenwe becomes the 10th Banyana Banyana player to reach the 100-cap milestone, joining the ranks of esteemed players such as Refiloe Jane, Noko Matlou, and Janine van Wyk, the latter holding the record as the most-capped African footballer with 185 appearances.
