Nairobi, Kenya is poised for a spectacle this Saturday as the Kip Keino Classic, a World Athletics Continental Tour Gold meeting, draws in a stellar lineup of international athletes ready to compete on the grand stage.

The infield action promises thrilling encounters, especially in the hammer throw event where world-class throwers converge.

Headlining this formidable lineup are the likes of Ethan Katzberg, the reigning world champion; Wojciech Nowicki, the Olympic champion; Pawel Fajdek, a five-time world champion; and Anita Wlodarczyk, the world record-holder.

Their showdown is anticipated to be a highlight of the meet.

On the track, the excitement continues with Botswana’s Letsile Tebogo, a double world medallist, leading the charge in the men’s 200m.

Tebogo’s exceptional form this season, including setting a world 300m best and a world-leading 400m time, makes him a strong contender.

Notably, this will mark Tebogo’s debut appearance at the Kip Keino Classic, returning to Nairobi where he first tasted international success.

However, Tebogo faces fierce competition from an impressive field, including USA’s Courtney Lindsey, Canada’s Brendon Rodney, and Italy’s Eseosa Desalu, all eager to make their mark in Nairobi.

The hammer competition sees Polish stars Wojciech Nowicki and Pawel Fajdek renewing their rivalry on Kenyan soil.

Nowicki, aiming for a third consecutive victory in Nairobi, will be challenged by Katzberg of Canada and Ukraine’s Mykhaylo Kokhan, ensuring a gripping contest in this prestigious event.

In the women’s hammer throw, the spotlight falls on Anita Wlodarczyk, a three-time Olympic champion, as she returns to the Kip Keino Classic aiming to reclaim her dominance. She faces stiff competition from top athletes like Janee’ Kassanavoid and Janeah Stewart.

Kenyan fans will have a local hero to rally behind as world champion Mary Moraa takes on her first 800m race of the season.

Fresh from her African Games triumph, Moraa will be eager to shine in front of her home crowd alongside fellow Kenyans Nelly Chepchirchir, Naomi Korir, and Vivian Chebet, with formidable challengers from Uganda and Ethiopia.

The men’s 800m race promises a clash of titans with Emmanuel Wanyonyi, the world silver medallist, aiming for a third victory at the Kip Keino Classic.

He faces tough competition from a field that includes Olympic silver medallist Ferguson Rotich and world indoor 1500m bronze medallist Abel Kipsang.

The sprint events are set to electrify the stadium, with African record-holder Ferdinand Omanyala and Namibia’s Christine Mboma headlining the men’s and women’s 100m races, respectively.

Omanyala will face stiff competition from USA’s Kenneth Bednarek and European U23 champion Jeremiah Azu.

In the women’s 100m, Mboma will contend against a strong field featuring Jamaica’s Alana Reid and USA’s Shannon Ray, ensuring a thrilling battle for supremacy.

The distance races promise equally compelling contests, with Kenyan athletes looking to assert their dominance against rivals from Ethiopia. World U20 champion Reynold Kipkorir leads the charge in the men’s 1500m, facing off against strong competition from Ethiopia’s Ermais Girma and Vincent Keter.

In the steeplechase, Olympic bronze medallist Benjamin Kigen and world bronze medallist Abraham Kibiwot headline a stacked field of Kenyan talent, ready to challenge Ethiopian rivals.

The women’s 5000m features Margaret Chelimo Kipkemboi, a world silver medallist, aiming for victory after her recent success at the World Cross. She faces tough competition from world 10,000m finalist Grace Nawowuna and African U20 silver medallist Yenenesh Shimket Ademas of Ethiopia.

With such a star-studded lineup and competitive clashes across various disciplines, the Kip Keino Classic promises to be a thrilling showcase of athletics excellence. Nairobi’s sports enthusiasts are in for a treat as they witness global stars collide in pursuit of glory at this prestigious event.
