South Africa’s Women Boks squad welcomes back Maria Tshiremba for Singapore showdown

Date:

As the HSBC SVNS tournament in Singapore draws near, anticipation mounts as speedster Maria Tshiremba prepares to rejoin the ranks of the Springbok Women’s Sevens squad.

After a setback in Vancouver followed by missed opportunities in Los Angeles and Hong Kong, Tshiremba’s return promises to inject much-needed firepower into the South African attack.

Having scored four tries in as many tournaments before her injury, Tshiremba’s absence was felt keenly by fans and teammates alike.

However, her full recovery now sees her poised to reclaim her position on the wing, replacing Alichia Arries in one of three changes to the squad since their last outing in Hong Kong.

Joining Tshiremba in the squad are Eloise Webb and Felicia Jacobs, both of whom bring their own unique talents to the team.

Webb’s return, after falling ill before the Hong Kong tournament, offers a boost of experience and leadership at flyhalf, while Jacobs, making only her second world series appearance, is set to dazzle with her quick-footed running skills.

Coach Renfred Dazel expressed his confidence in Tshiremba’s ability to make an immediate impact, citing her past performances as evidence of her attacking prowess. Recalling her match-winning try against Great Britain in Perth, Dazel emphasized the confidence and momentum Tshiremba brings to the squad.

While Tshiremba’s return is cause for celebration, the team faces challenges of their own, with Zandile Masuku ruled out due to an ankle injury and the pressure mounting as they gear up to face tough opponents in Pool B, including the USA, France, and Japan.

Despite their previous encounters this season, Dazel remains optimistic, drawing on moments of strength and resilience to fuel their determination.

As they prepare to make their debut in Singapore, Dazel’s experience and guidance offer a sense of reassurance to the team.

With the humid conditions posing a potential challenge, Dazel’s advice to stay focused and maintain their preparation routines underscores the team’s readiness to take on whatever obstacles come their way.

With Tshiremba’s return igniting a sense of excitement and determination within the squad, the stage is set for an exhilarating showdown in Singapore as the Springbok Women’s Sevens team strives to make their mark on the global stage once more.
