Kenyan Premier League: Defending champions Gor Mahia seek to close in on unlikely leaders Posta Rangers

Date:

The 2023-2024 Kenyan Premier League resumes on Saturday from the two-weeks international break where nations kicked off their pursuit for tickets to the 2026 World Cup in the African, South American, North American, Asian and Oceania qualifiers across the world.

In Kenya, all focus shifts from Harambee Stars to clubs as defending champions Gor Mahia and unlikely leaders Posta Rangers continue with their battle at the helm of the standings.

Posta Rangers are currently sitting top of the 18-team league with 22 points after 11 matches, one point above Gor Mahia.

On Saturday, Posta will face off against newbies Shabana in an Azam TV televised early-kickoff match to be played from 1pm East African Time at Machakos Stadium.

Rangers will be seeking to end their three match winless streak against Shabana who begun their redemption journey two weeks ago by defeating Nzoia Sugar 2-1.

Shabana were bottom of the table and had to fire their coach Sammy Okoth and replace him with Oscar Kambona who is now tasked with steering the sinking ship back afloat.

At the same stadium, Sofapaka will welcome struggling giants AFC Leopards at 4pm.

Leopards are currently one point above the relegation zone after winning only one match of the 11 played so far.

However, it’s not only Ingwe struggling because Sofapaka on the other hand have not won their last two matches losing 3-0 and 5-0 respectively to FC Talanta and Kakamega Homeboyz.

On the other hand, champions Gor Mahia will travel to play Muhoroni Youth in Homa Bay on Sunday as they also eye to turn around their recent draws into wins.

K’Ogalo as they are commonly referred to by their die-hard fans have won only one match in their last four matches, drawing the remaining three.

A win for Gor will lift them to the top of the league if Posta fails to edge out Shabana.
