CECAFA U18: Rwanda join Kenya in semifinals

Date:

Rwanda’s Amavubi Junior Stars on Friday joined Kenya’s Junior Stars in the semifinals of the 2023 Council of East and Central Africa Football Association (Cecafa) Under-18 championships.

Rwanda hammered Sudan 3-0 at Jomo Kenyatta Stadium in Kisumu to finish second in Group A as the preliminary matches ended.

The Amavubi Junior Stars had defeated Somalia 1-0 during their opening match before losing 1-0 to Kenya.

They needed a win against Sudan to join Kenya to the last four and they did.

On the other hand, Kenya’s Junior Stars completed their preliminary matches unbeaten after coming from behind to hammer Somalia 4-1 in a five-goal thriller action at Bukhungu Stadium.

Abdihafid Abdi stunned Kenya when he gave Somalia the lead in the 19th minute before Humphrey Aroko scored a brace with Stanley Omondi and Aldrine Kibet sealing the Junior Stars win.

Kenya finish top of Group A with nine points and ten goals, conceding only one goal.

The semifinals will be played next week in Kisumu.
