Cameroon beat Nigeria in friendly of stars

Date:

A team consisting of former standout footballers from Cameroon emerged victorious with a 3-1 win over a team comprising ex-Nigerian players in a testimonial match held on Thursday evening.

The match, which took place at the Omnisport Stadium in Limbe, drew a crowd of over 10,000 spectators.

Julius Aghahowa scored the lone goal for the Nigerian team led by Jay-Jay Okocha, while Samuel Eto’o, Bernard Tchoutang, and Ndip Tambe found the net for Cameroon.

The game was promoted as a reenactment of the 2000 African Nations Cup final, where Cameroon triumphed over the Super Eagles in a penalty shootout after a 2-2 draw.

“It was a highly entertaining game, and it would have been a remarkable coincidence if the result mirrored the original 2000 final. These football legends demonstrated that they still have the skills to compete in championships today,” commented Nigerian supporter Emeka James, who attended the match.

Cameroonian supporter Michael Jaaba expressed his enthusiasm for witnessing legends like Samuel Eto’o and Jay-Jay Okocha in action, stating, “They lived up to our expectations, and we thoroughly enjoyed the exhibition match.”

The match was organized by Cameroon as part of the activities commemorating the International Plantain Festival, which is set to be officially launched in the country on Friday.
