Egypt’s Sporting and Kenya Ports Authority continue Africa Women’s Basketball League title march

Date:

In the 2023 Africa Women’s Basketball League (AWBL), Egypt’s Alexandria Sporting Club (ASC) continues to shine, maintaining their unbeaten run towards the title.

They secured a dominant 105-55 victory against Overdose Up Station, showcasing their prowess on the court.

ASC’s star player, Mohamed Abdelrahman, reached a remarkable century in points for the third time in the tournament, emphasizing his exceptional skills.

The team’s bench played a crucial role, contributing 56 points and highlighting their depth. Skipper Hagar Amer delivered a double-double performance with 16 points and 13 rebounds.

ASC’s strategy of rotating all 12 players effectively paid off, ensuring that each player had a chance to shine. Their commanding performance saw them take a 29-point lead into halftime.

Looking ahead, ASC is focused on the semifinals, where they will face Inter Clube of Angola who knocked out Nigeria’s Customs.

They are determined to clinch the championship, and they have enlisted the services of three Senegalese internationals, including Fatou Diagne, Yacine Diop, and Cierra Dillard, to bolster their squad.

Coach Abdelrahman is confident that these additions will contribute significantly to their quest for the title.

In another thrilling match, Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) faced off against Equity Bank in an all-Kenyan quarter-final clash.

Despite concerns about an injury, teenage sensation Madina Okot led KPA to an 81-66 victory with a standout performance, scoring 31 points, grabbing 17 rebounds, and blocking 4 shots. Okot’s stellar performance earned her high praise from coach Antony Ojukwu.

The match was a closely contested affair, with both teams showing determination and familiarity with each other’s style of play. KPA’s strong second quarter, led by Victoria Reynolds, gave them a significant lead. Despite a comeback attempt by Equity Bank in the third quarter, KPA held their ground and secured the win.

As the AWBL progresses, fans can expect more exciting action from ASC and KPA, two teams determined to make their mark on the championship.
