Kenyan Jesse Okal crowned Africa Super Sprint champion

Date:

Kenyan triathlete Jesse Okal emerged victorious at the Africa Triathlon Championship, clinching the title of Super Sprint Champion in a spectacular display of skill and determination.

The two-day event, held in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt, showcased Okal’s exceptional talent as he conquered the men’s super sprint race with a remarkable time of 41 minutes and twenty-three seconds.

Okal’s triumph adds another chapter to his family’s legacy in athletics, being the grandson of legendary athlete Kipchoge Keino.

His victory underscores Kenya’s growing prominence in the world of triathlon and highlights the nation’s potential as a force to be reckoned with on the international stage.

In other notable performances, Mohammed Bagha secured a bronze medal in the junior Triathlon Category, further demonstrating Kenya’s depth of talent in the sport.

Despite stiff competition, athletes such as Josett Kiarie, Aisha Naseer, Meghan Irungu, Kaiza Iman, and Nadia Ndibo showcased commendable efforts in their respective categories, showcasing Kenya’s strength across various disciplines.

The Sharm El Sheikh event marked the beginning of the 2024 World circuit and served as a crucial stepping stone on the road to the Paris Olympic Games later in the year.

Jocelyne Nyambura, President of the Kenya Triathlon Federation, expressed her gratitude to the Ministry of Sports and the Government for their support in sponsoring the athletes to the qualifier event.

“We thank the Ministry of Sports and the Government for sponsoring the athletes to the qualifier event and the athletes produced one of the best performances in Kenya’s history. We look forward to other upcoming events and promise to lift Kenya’s flag higher,” Nyambura stated upon the team’s return.

With their sights set on future competitions, including the African Games in Ghana and the Africa Triathlon Cup in South Africa in April, the Kenyan triathlon squad is poised to continue making waves on the international stage, inspiring a new generation of athletes and bringing glory to the nation.
