Ghana’s U-20 team, famously dubbed the Black Satellites, delivered a stellar performance on Tuesday night, clinching a crucial 3-1 triumph over Gambia in a highly anticipated Group A clash at the 13th African Games.

The match, held at the electric atmosphere of the Accra Sports Stadium, saw Ghana asserting their dominance right from the kickoff, with an evident intent to attack.

The crowd erupted in jubilation as Musibau Aziz struck early in the 13th minute, breaking the deadlock and setting the tone for Ghana’s relentless pursuit of victory.

Abdul Aziz Issah further solidified Ghana’s lead with a clinical finish in the 49th minute, putting them firmly in control of proceedings.

Despite Gambia’s valiant efforts to stage a comeback, exemplified by Edrissa Ceesay’s goal in the 83rd minute, Ghana maintained their composure.

Their resilience paid off handsomely in the dying moments of the game when Jerry Afriyie sealed the win with a goal in the 90th minute, sending the home fans into raptures.

Head Coach Desmond Offei lauded his team’s remarkable display, attributing the victory to their unwavering dedication and hard work.

Meanwhile, Gambia’s Head Coach, Abdoulie Bojang, acknowledged his team’s tactical deficiencies, conceding that Ghana was the superior side on the night.

In a simultaneous fixture at the same venue, Congo and Benin battled to a goalless draw in a tightly contested encounter. Both teams showcased defensive solidity but struggled to find the breakthrough, leaving their coaches with mixed feelings about the result.

With the group stage nearing its conclusion, Ghana’s triumph has bolstered their prospects, while Congo and Benin will aim to rectify their shortcomings in the upcoming matches against Gambia and hosts Ghana, respectively.
