The South African Sevens team, Blitzboks, has bolstered their squad for the upcoming HSBC Sevens tournament in Singapore with the return of three experienced players.
Dylan Sage and Siviwe Soyizwapi are both back in the fold after absences, while Rosko Specman rejoins the team after a late withdrawal from the Hong Kong Sevens.
Sage, who returns to the Blitzboks side after four years, brings a wealth of experience to the side, following his stints with the Vodacom Bulls and Montauban in France.
Soyizwapi, who boasts 150 Sevens Series tries to his name, is back after recovering from a knee injury that kept him out for the first half of the season, while Specman, makes a return after recovering from his knee injury sustained at the Hong Kong Sevens.
Interim coach Snyman emphasized the importance of building a deep squad with three strong players available in each position for the crucial upcoming tournaments.
“They are three massively experienced players with very positive personalities and will bring energy and skill to this group,” he said.
“Siviwe Soyizwapi worked incredibly hard to get back to fitness, and Dylan Sage slotted back in seamlessly. Rosko Specman was due to play in Hong Kong, so we are happy to have him fit and ready this time,” he added.
The coach also acknowledged some injury concerns, with Ronald Brown and Ryan Oosthuizen unavailable for selection. However, he sees this as an opportunity to integrate fresh legs into the squad, with Tiaan Pretorius and Tristan Leyds getting a chance to build momentum.
The Springbok Sevens squad departs for Singapore on Sunday and will be looking to bounce back from a sixth-place finish in Hong Kong. They currently sit seventh at the HSBC Sevens Series standings with 58 points.
