Regional Golfers set to shine at KCB East Africa Golf Series Tour in Burundi

The lush fairways of the Bujumbura Golf Club in Burundi are set to host a thrilling display of golfing prowess as over 100 regional golfers converge for the 2024 KCB East Africa Golf Series Tour on Saturday.

The picturesque nine-hole par 71 course will witness intense competition among amateurs hailing from Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, and the host nation Burundi, all vying for prestigious prizes and coveted qualification slots for the tour’s grand finale slated for later this year in Kenya.

This event marks the first-ever golf tournament held outside Kenya as part of the KCB East Africa Golf Series Tour, reflecting the growing regional footprint of this premier golfing spectacle.

The morning tee-off is scheduled for 6:30 am, with the afternoon session set to commence at 12:30 pm, promising a full day of gripping golf action against the backdrop of Bujumbura’s scenic landscapes.

Speaking ahead of the tournament, Bujumbura Golf Club Captain Huynen Benjamin emphasized the significance of the KCB East Africa Golf Series Tour in nurturing golf talent across East Africa.

“The Tour has been instrumental in advancing the sport regionally, empowering golfers to sharpen their skills and fostering the growth of emerging talents,” remarked Captain Benjamin.

He expressed the club’s delight in partnering with KCB for the second consecutive year, underscoring the pivotal role of such initiatives in expanding the sport’s reach.

For KCB Group, the mission to elevate golf to elite levels and cultivate the next generation of golfers is a central focus of the tour.

Rosalind Gichuru, KCB’s Director of Marketing and Communications, highlighted the positive impact of the series, which has engaged over 800 participants across various Kenyan counties and conducted clinics that benefited over 500 juniors.

“Our goal is to make a lasting impact on the golfing community, reaching as many enthusiasts as possible,” stated Gichuru. “The enthusiasm and participation we’ve witnessed so far underscore the potential to develop golf into a premier sport within the region.”

The Burundi leg of the KCB East Africa Golf Series Tour promises to be a pivotal chapter in the series’ narrative, showcasing the diversity and depth of golfing talent within East Africa.

Following the Burundi stop, the tour will resume in Kenya at the Nakuru Golf Course on May 17, 2024, continuing its mission to foster excellence and passion for golf across East Africa.
