Excitement is brewing in the cricketing community as Uganda unveils its final squad for the upcoming 2024 International Cricket Council (ICC) T20 Men’s World Cup, marking the country’s debut appearance on this prestigious global stage.

The Uganda Cricket Association (UCA) revealed the selected players on Monday, signaling a significant milestone for cricket development in the East African nation.

Brian Mark Masaba has been entrusted with the captaincy, leading Uganda’s charge in the highly anticipated tournament. Masaba’s leadership skills and on-field prowess make him a natural choice to guide the team through the challenges of international competition.

Joining him in a key leadership role is the newly appointed vice-captain, Riazat Ali Shah, who brings experience and strategic acumen to the squad.

Nehal Bibodi, head of the selectors for UCA, emphasized the rigorous selection process aimed at identifying players capable of excelling at the highest level.

“We have selected players based on their performance and potential to excel in the tournament. We believe in their abilities to compete at the highest level,” Bibodi stated, underlining the confidence placed in the chosen squad.

The ICC T20 Men’s World Cup, scheduled from June 1 to 29, will feature 20 teams battling it out across venues in the West Indies and the United States.

Uganda finds itself placed in Group C alongside formidable opponents: Afghanistan, Papua New Guinea, the West Indies, and New Zealand. The stage is set for Uganda’s cricketers to showcase their skills against some of the world’s top cricketing nations.

Currently undergoing intensive preparations, the Ugandan team is honing their skills at a training camp in Sri Lanka, where they are also slated to play international friendlies to fine-tune their game ahead of the World Cup.

This immersive training regimen underscores Uganda’s commitment to making a strong debut on the global cricketing scene.

Uganda’s journey in the ICC T20 Men’s World Cup commences with a clash against Afghanistan on June 3, followed by a showdown with Papua New Guinea two days later.

The team faces a formidable challenge against hosts the West Indies on June 8, culminating their group stage campaign with a match against New Zealand on June 14.

The excitement and anticipation are palpable among Ugandan cricket enthusiasts, who eagerly await their team’s performance in this landmark event.

The World Cup debut represents a pivotal moment for cricket in Uganda, highlighting the sport’s growth and potential in the region.

As the countdown to kick-off intensifies, Uganda’s cricket fraternity rallies behind Masaba and his squad, urging them to embrace the opportunity and leave a lasting impression on the global stage.

With talent, determination, and strategic guidance, Uganda’s T20 squad aims to make waves, inspiring a new generation of cricketers and showcasing the nation’s cricketing prowess to the world.
