Road to Morocco: AFCON 2025 qualifiers draw set for July 4

The journey to the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025 will resume with the eagerly anticipated draw for the Qualifiers on Thursday, 04 July 2024. The event will be held at SuperSport studios in Johannesburg at 14:30 local time (15:30 Cairo time, 12:30 GMT).

The draw will see 48 nations, including the four winners from the preliminary round—Chad, Eswatini, Liberia, and South Sudan—drawn into 12 groups of four teams each. These teams will compete for a coveted place in the finals of Africa’s premier football tournament.

Headlining the confirmed nations for the draw are reigning African champions Cote d’Ivoire, joined by a formidable array of teams including Algeria, Angola, Benin, Botswana, Burundi, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Central African Republic, Chad, Comoros, Congo, DR Congo, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Eswatini, and Ethiopia.

Other participating nations include Gabon, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea Bissau, Kenya, Lesotho, Liberia, Libya, Madagascar, Malawi, Mali, Mauritania, Morocco, Mozambique, Namibia, Niger, Nigeria, Rwanda, Sao Tome & Principe, Senegal, Sierra Leone, South Africa, South Sudan, Sudan, Tanzania, Togo, Tunisia, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.

The qualifiers are scheduled to kick off in September 2024, setting the stage for the first 24 nations to secure their spots in Africa’s most prestigious football event, the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco in 2025.

Fresh from the thrills and successes of the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Cote d’Ivoire 2023—where the host nation defied all odds to claim their third title—fans can expect a line-up of intriguing matches as teams embark on the journey to the 35th edition of this showpiece continental sporting event.

The draw will be attended by selected CAF legends, representatives of the participating teams, and members of the Local Organising Committee for the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025, among others. This event marks a significant milestone in the countdown to what promises to be another memorable chapter in African football history.
