The Kenya Professional Boxing Commission (KPBC) chairman Reuben Ndolo has urged boxing fans to turn out in large numbers at Charter Hall, Nairobi, on Saturday July 19 for the highly anticipated Roar in the Ring Season II boxing extravaganza.
Speaking ahead of the 14-bout showdown, Ndolo praised Melk Boxing Promotions for organizing a historic event that will not only feature elite and amateur fighters from Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania but also mark a milestone with the inclusion of para boxing for the first time in the country.
“First of all, let me thank the promoter for the good job that he has done. Kenya is always one step ahead–we led with women’s boxing and now we are breaking ground with para boxing,” said Ndolo.
“It’s not easy, but you have to give it back to the people. These fighters deserve to earn a living, and we will make sure we support and uplift them.”
Ndolo reaffirmed KPBC’s commitment to improving the welfare of all boxers, especially female and para athletes, by partnering with promoters and government stakeholders to grow the sport and enhance athletes’ livelihoods.
“I urge Kenyans to come out in their numbers and support our local boxers who will be in action. We will keep standing with our female boxers and now our para boxers too, so they can make a life out of the sport and earn respect,” he added.
One of the most inspiring highlights of this year’s edition will be the debut of para boxing, led by fighter Evans Odhiambo, who is determined to use the platform to inspire people living with disabilities. Odhiambo brought silver to Kenya after participating in an organized competition in Poland last year.
“I am well prepared for tomorrow’s fight. Para boxing is not familiar with many Kenyans, but we are here to show that not all is lost. There is a chance for us to showcase our talent and earn from it,” said Odhiambo. “I thank Melk Boxing Promotions for including us in this event–it inspires us to step forward and be seen.”
Melk Boxing Promotions director Ezekiel Mwabili said this year’s tournament builds on the momentum of the inaugural Roar in the Ring held in October 2024. He emphasized that their mission is to create an inclusive boxing culture that gives everyone–regardless of ability–a shot at glory.
“Roar in the Ring Season II is much bigger. We have 14 fights, and we have brought in top boxers from Tanzania and Uganda. But what stands out is our introduction of para boxing–this is a bold step in giving people with disabilities an opportunity to shine,” said Mwabili. “Our headline bout between Daniel ‘The Hitman’ Wanyonyi and Daniel Okoth will also double up as a national title fight.”
Mwabili called for more collaborative efforts from the Ministry of Sports, KPBC and the boxing fraternity to elevate Kenyan boxing to international standards.
Gates of Charter Hall will on Saturday open from 5:00 PM (EAT) till the last bell. Fans are encouraged to secure their tickets via USSD code *48729# or MPESA Till Number: 5803087.
