LALIGA season run-in: The relegation battle is tight, with six teams separated by three points

With just seven matchdays remaining in the 2025/26 LALIGA EA SPORTS season, the relegation battle is well and truly heating up. There are so many teams still sweating it out, with Rayo Vallecano, in 13th place, only three points above 18th-placed Elche CF. Here, we take a look at every club from 13th down to 20th, analysing their situation.

Rayo Vallecano (13th, 35 points)

This will go down as a historic season for Rayo Vallecano, given how far they have managed to go in the UEFA Conference League. However, their European commitments have cost them somewhat domestically, and the capital city side are still not fully safe from the threat of relegation. They’ll hope to mathematically confirm their place in the division before travelling to Deportivo Alavés on the final day.

Remaining fixtures: RCD Espanyol (H), Real Sociedad (H), Getafe CF (A), Girona FC (H), Valencia CF (A), Villarreal CF (H), Deportivo Alavés (A)

Valencia CF (14th, 35 points)

Valencia CF have often found themselves involved at this end of the table in recent years, and they’ve always managed to pick enough points to stay up. Los Che haven’t played in Spanish football’s second tier since 1986/87, and coach Carlos Corberán is hoping to keep it that way. There are some very tricky fixtures remaining for Valencia CF, though, so they’ll have to put in some strong performance to achieve their objective.

Remaining fixtures: RCD Mallorca (A), Girona FC (H), Atlético de Madrid (H), Athletic Club (A), Rayo Vallecano (H), Real Sociedad (A), FC Barcelona (H)

RCD Mallorca (15th, 34 points)

In Vedat Muriqi, RCD Mallorca have the second-top scorer in LALIGA EA SPORTS in their ranks. However, there aren’t many other members of the squad contributing in terms of goals, while their defence has been one of the most porous in the competition. With former centre-back Martín Demichelis having come in as the coach of the team, the hierarchy at the island club are hoping that the defence can improve and that this team can pick up enough results to stay in the top tier.

Remaining fixtures: Valencia CF (H), Deportivo Alavés (A), Girona FC (A), Villarreal CF (H), Getafe CF (A), Levante UD (A), Real Oviedo (H)

Sevilla FC (16th, 34 points)

This has been a difficult season for Sevilla FC, who are at serious risk of being relegated to LALIGA HYPERMOTION. This historic club hasn’t been at that level since 2000/01, but things just haven’t been clicking at the Estadio Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán. Los Nervionenses have changed coach, bringing in Luis García Plaza for the relegation run-in, and he has already achieved one very impressive result by defeating Atlético de Madrid. Across the final matchdays, the Andalusians need one or two more positive results to confirm survival.

Remaining fixtures: Levante UD (A), CA Osasuna (A), Real Sociedad (H), RCD Espanyol (H), Villarreal CF (A), Real Madrid (H), RC Celta (A)

Deportivo Alavés (17th, 33 points)

Deportivo Alavés have only actually spent one single matchday this season inside the bottom three, but they’re at risk of falling into the drop zone at exactly the wrong moment. Their run-in is a mix of matches against Spain’s best and against their fellow relegation rivals, so anything could happen over the final weeks of the season. With an experienced coach in Quique Sánchez Flores, following the departure of Eduardo Coudet, the Basques will hope he can steer the team to safety.

Remaining fixtures: Real Madrid (A), RCD Mallorca (H), Athletic Club (H), Elche CF (A), FC Barcelona (H), Real Oviedo (A), Rayo Vallecano (H)

Elche CF (18th, 32 points)

After winning promotion last summer, Elche CF enjoyed an excellent start to the 2025/26 LALIGA EA SPORTS season. However, they’re really struggled in the second half of the campaign, with opponents now becoming more familiar with their unique tactical style. After collecting 23 points from their first 19 games, they’ve added just nine more points in this second half of the season. Now inside the relegation zone, Elche need to rediscover their early season form, and quickly.

Remaining fixtures: Atlético de Madrid (H), Real Oviedo (A), RC Celta (A), Deportivo Alavés (H), Real Betis (A), Getafe CF (H), Girona FC (A)

Levante UD (19th, 29 points)

With a five-point gap to 17th place, Levante UD are a little further adrift than Elche CF above them. Yet, there is still hope at the Estadi Ciutat de València. They’ve improved in recent weeks and have the LALIGA EA SPORTS March Player of the Month in their ranks, in Carlos Espí. If he can keep up his second-half-of-the-season form, the club from Valencia could yet climb to safety.

Remaining fixtures: Sevilla FC (H), RCD Espanyol (A), Villarreal CF (A), CA Osasuna (H), RC Celta (A), RCD Mallorca (H), Real Betis (A)

Real Oviedo (20th, 27 points)

Real Oviedo finally returned to Spanish football’s top tier last summer, after a 24-year exodus. Now, the Asturian outfit will look to stay in the promised land by putting together an epic end to the season. With three wins from the past four matchdays, they’re suddenly finding form. It might be too little too late, after a poor first half of the season, but Real Oviedo will keep fighting to the end, and their final two fixtures are against direct relegation rivals.

Remaining fixtures: Villarreal CF (H), Elche CF (H), Real Betis (A), Getafe CF (H), Real Madrid (A), Deportivo Alavés (H), RCD Mallorca (A)
