Uganda’s Kawempe Muslim Ladies and Kenya Police Bullets FC will face-off in the CAF Women’s Champions League CECAFA Qualifiers final on Monday, 31 August.
Kawempe Muslim Ladies brushed aside 2024 winners Commercial Bank of Ethiopia (CBE) 3-0, while Kenya Police Bullets humbled Yei Joint Stars FC (South Sudan) 5-0 in the semi-final matches played on Saturday at the Kigali Pele Stadium in Rwanda.
The CBE side started the first semi-final encounter with good ball possession, but conceded a goal after 18 minutes. Jovia Nakagolo capitalized on a defensive lapse by CBE to score.
Etsegenet Girma Negash later had her well taken shot saved by the Kawempe Muslim Ladies goalkeeper Saidah Namwanje after 20 minutes.
In the second half another defensive blunder cost CBE as Tigist Adane Belhu diverted Nakagolo’s shot to score an own goal past goalkeeper Tarikua Bargena Balcha.
Agnes Nabukenya increased Kawempe Muslim Ladies lead after 70 minutes to make it 3-0.
Ayub Khalifa Kiyingi, the Kawempe Muslim Ladies team coach praised his team for the hard work which has seen them win all the three matches enroute to the final.” “We have continued to work hard, scoring 12 goals and conceding none in the three matches,” added Kiyingi.
The second semi-final saw the 2024 runners-ups Kenya Police Bullets FC humble Yei Joint Stars FC 5-0.
Tereza Obunyu and Martha Amunyolete Emedot gave the Kenyan giants a 2-0 half time lead.
After recess the Kenya Police Bullets FC team returned strongly and scored three more goals.
Lorna Nyabuto made it 3-0 after 55 minutes, and Emedot converted a penalty after 74 minutes to record her second goal of the evening. Substitute Rebecca Akinyi Okwaro also got her name on the score sheet with five minutes remaining to full time.
“We are very happy getting to the final. This time we must work hard and win the trophy,” said Kenya Police Bullets coach David Bujego Rangon.
The winner between the two sides will represent the CECAFA zone at the upcoming CAF Women’s Champions League finals this season.
