1spin4win and Gertrude’s Foundation call on global iGaming community to support child healthcare in Kenya

Access to specialised healthcare remains a major challenge for many children with cancer and central nervous system (CNS)-related conditions in Kenya. For vulnerable families, the cost of diagnosis, treatment, transport and other essential care can become a significant barrier, often contributing to late diagnosis and treatment abandonment. United for Impact, a charity initiative supported by 1spin4win, seeks to help address this gap by mobilising the global iGaming community to raise funds for children and families in need of specialised care across Kenya.

In this Q&A, Natali Miankouskaya, Event and Influencer Manager at 1spin4win, and Concepter Muoti, Fundraising Manager at Gertrude’s Hospital Foundation, discuss the thinking behind United for Impact, the challenges facing families, and how the initiative hopes to make a meaningful difference.

To begin, could you tell us what United for Impact is, why 1spin4win launched the initiative, and what it aims to achieve?

NATALI MIANKOUSKAYA (NM): As part of United for Impact, we are supporting Gertrude’s Children’s Hospital Foundation, the charitable arm of one of Kenya’s leading pediatric hospitals. Each year, the organization serves more than 400,000 patients through a network of 18 medical centers.

What is important to emphasize is that, for 1spin4win, this initiative goes beyond a one-off campaign. Through United for Impact, we want to promote a more responsible and sustainable approach to business. We believe the iGaming community has the power to create positive change beyond the industry, and that this influence should be used to help those who need it most.

So far, Affilka, Focus Gaming News, BGaming, and EvenBet Gaming have joined the campaign as supporting partners, and we are grateful for their donations and commitment to the cause.

Many companies want to support charitable causes but face the same questions: how do they choose a reliable foundation, verify its work, understand where the money goes, and ensure the process is properly controlled? How did 1spin4win address these challenges, and why did you choose Gertrude’s Children’s Hospital Foundation as your partner?

NM: It was quite challenging to choose the right foundation. What mattered most to us was finding an established and trusted organization with a clear mission, visible impact, and transparent processes. We needed to understand how the foundation worked, how donations were managed, and how the funds raised through United for Impact would directly support children and their families.

When we came across Gertrude’s Children’s Hospital Foundation, it stood out immediately. We could clearly see the work it was doing, and it was already well known and trusted locally.

However, 1spin4win was not the only side carrying out checks. It was equally important for Gertrude’s Children’s Hospital Foundation to work with an established and proven company, too. As a result, the process involved not only our marketing team but also 1spin4win’s legal department.

Why is 1spin4win inviting the wider iGaming community to join the initiative, and what does a company need to do to become a supporting partner?

NM: At 1spin4win, we believe collective action can create a much greater impact than one company working alone. Financial contributions are important, but partners can also support the initiative by highlighting the situation in Kenyan pediatric healthcare and sharing the campaign across their business networks.

We have already completed the most time-consuming part: selecting and verifying the foundation, coordinating the process, and ensuring transparency. This allows other companies to join with confidence.

What are the main barriers preventing international companies from supporting pediatric healthcare initiatives in Kenya?

CONCEPTER MUOTI (CM): Often it isn’t reluctance — it’s distance and unfamiliarity. International companies want to know exactly where their money goes, and cross-border giving can feel opaque without a trusted local partner on the ground. Many also assume pediatric cancer care in Africa is a government-covered service, when in reality, families frequently pay out of pocket for diagnostics, treatment, and travel. There’s also a visibility gap: childhood cancer in Kenya rarely makes international headlines, so it competes poorly against more visible global causes for corporate CSR budgets. And practical barriers — currency risk, compliance checks, uncertainty about impact reporting — can make a company hesitate even when the will to help is genuinely there. Our job is to close that gap in trust and information.

What types of care and support can donor contributions help provide to children and their families?

CM: Contributions fund the full journey, not just treatment. That includes diagnosis — imaging, lab tests, biopsies that catch cancer early, when it’s most treatable. It funds chemotherapy, surgery, and access to specialist care that children wouldn’t otherwise receive. Just as importantly, it supports what happens around treatment: psychosocial counseling for children and parents facing a frightening diagnosis, transport and accommodation for families who travel from rural counties, nutritional support during treatment, and training for nurses and clinicians so specialist care isn’t limited to one facility. Every shilling is really funding a family’s ability to stay by their child’s side through treatment — without being pushed into poverty to do it.

How does the Foundation ensure that every donation reaches the children and families who need it most?

CM: We work hand-in-hand with Gertrude’s clinical and community health Promoters, who identify families based on medical need and financial hardship — not who asks loudest or first. Every case is tracked individually through our Kenya Childhood Cancer Program, so funds are allocated to specific children’s treatment plans rather than pooled without oversight. We publish impact reports for our partners and sponsors showing funds raised against outcomes achieved, and our finances are independently audited annually. Donors sponsoring a specific initiative — like this partnership — receive a direct account of what their contribution funded. Accountability isn’t an afterthought for us; it’s what lets us ask companies to trust us with their support in the first place.
